Fast read. Entertaining. Good short story.
I know it’s a novella and meant to be short, but I definitely think it should’ve been longer. A lot of things became very repetitive because the author didn’t have time to reveal them through actions instead of words. We’re told multiple times how familiar Vale is becoming instead of having time to be shown slowly that they are getting more comfortable around each other. We’re also told so many times how cold Lilith is and how she is unable to read emotions or connect with other people.

I loved how romantic this story was. Almost like a classic fairy tale. I on a kick lately with reading female characters who are older, who have to solve a larger problem using whatever traits they can. Lilith is no exception. She has a terminal illness, but the rest of the town is also afflicted. She is a scientist, fascinated by asking questions and learning how things work. Naturally, she is drawn to Vale the Vampire.

I wish I had read this in between "The Serpent and the Wings of Night" and "The Ashes and the Star Cursed King", because I would have appreciated Lilith's character a lot more!
