One of the best books I have ever read: funny, dynamic, full of surprises, the perfect book for the summer. The characters, especially Aunt Mame, have a place in my heart.

I read this as a kid, and loved his kid's eye view, though a great deal of it went over my head. In later readings, different aspects blinked into perspective, like the Algonquin refs, etc. I still find it readable, as a comfort read. I am a sucker for the sendup of snobs and bigots.

An orphaned boy reminisces about being raised by his eccentric aunt. Told through little anecdotes that span the decades from the late 1920s through the 50s, each episode shows Auntie Mame reinventing herself and bringing fun and chaos wherever she goes.
