Started out 5 star, not exactly sure why but I really didn't like the fact that Shovel is Gus's brother. I guess it seemed a little pandering and wasn't needed in the story. Other than that, great book. RC Bray as usual was excellent.

I enjoyed this series and think he ended it at the right time.

3.5 stars. I really good conclusion to a series I have loved. I'm not big on zombie stories but Blackmore's is a notable exception. At this point in the apocalypse the zombies have largely worn themselves away so when they do appear they have all the gruesome horror that they originally inspired. The main focus is on the groups of survivors and the differences in what kind of people can survive in an apocalyptic scenario. His characters are raw and feel very real. This book added some new characters who were special forces operators and that lead to some very cool combat scenarios. Blackmore has always maintained a high sense of humour in his stories but it did wane in this one at times. My least favourite part of this book and the previous was the drunken/ high stupors, I just think they drag the book down quite a bit.
R.C. Bray did an excellent job with the audiobook narration as always.

I like the plot and adventures of the crew, but it felt like a repetitive formula of Gus being captured and helpless and needing to be saved. Some good bits, but too long.

"Welcome home, brother."

What an amazing end to one of my all time favorite series of books. I've read a few zombie books here and there but I'm not a huge fan of the genre as it tends to be repetitive. However, this series focuses more on a few well drawn, fascinating characters than on the zombie apocalypse (although there is plenty of zombie fighting action going on). Gus is an incredible character, full of faults and quirks but also so much heart and resilience. This really is a study in survival and by the end, I really just wanted him to find peace because he'd earned it. Collie, Ollie, Maggie, Scott and others round out the book and the series along with some of the worst baddies ever. Great characters.
I listened to this series on audiobook and once again, R.C. Bray kills it. He's amazing in his character voice creation and is oh so consistent. An amazing talent paired with a great story is unbeatable. Thank you Keith C. Blackmore for your efforts, they were much appreciated.
