CANNOT. tell you how annoyed i am. I was so invested in kimberly & her mothers story, matt’s story, even little parks. AND IT ENDED LIKE THAT?

I’m very happy she got her & her mothers happy ending however?? WTF???

I loved the main character of this book - Kimberly Chang, which oddly is not all that common for me. I felt like I knew her, which is obviously a compliment to the author. I loved the way the author used the Chinese slang throughout the story and would then explain it to us. It exemplified for me how difficult it would be for an immigrant to learn English. The story of Kimberly's struggle and resilience reminded me of one of my favorite books - This Stubborn Soil, by William A. Owens. One a true story and the other, I suspect, with many elements of truth, depict individuals who have persevered through staggering odds to achieve not only their dreams but to help those they love the best they can. It was not only an inspiring story, but a lovely story. I enjoyed every minute and hated to be away from it.

A story that shows the hope and hardship that exist hand in hand for immigrants. It was just so human and beautiful. I was rooting for this main character so much!!!! The really small moments of this book made me want to cry

One of my faves from middle school, really impacted me then
It’s a great read but I love it more for sentimental purposes
