Overall : great read !

I initially decided to read the book after watching the TV show form Hulu, who came out in 2019.
At first I wasn't sure that I wanted to read the book, being half in the TV show but, finally, after finishing watching it completely, I was curious to explore the book that inspired this.

After watching, and then reading Looking for Alaska, the whole story finally reach my heart.
I fell in love with the universe, the characters and the themes of the book.
Even if I was not a big fan of the main character of Alaska at first, I finished the book realizing that she was more complex than what I first thought and also quite a unique and interesting character after all.

It's really well written, and even if it may be a "young adult" book, it's also relevant as an adult book as well. It explore really well the themes of resilience, death and the purpose of life itself, with a more deep story than the regular young adult one that you may expect.

Enjoyed this read. YA, but not annoyingly so. Self-depreciating narrators are always more enjoyable I find.77

This novel is a touching tale about a young man, Miles "Pudge" Halter, pursuing his "Great Unknown." Along the way, at his new boarding school, he befriends nanny interesting students: the Colonel, Takumi, Lara... but most mysterious of all is Alaska Young. As one might guess based on the title, Alaska plays a large role in altering the lives of those in this book.

***vague spoilers***
I felt this book has a novel approach to loss and coping with the loss of someone close to you. The Old Man and his religion class helped put things on a level that transcended teenage drama.

While the book was more moving past the gray page marking "After," the characters were at times annoying. However, I felt this to be fitting of the teenage population being portrayed. The final prank was also disappointing. Thankfully, Green makes up for it (slightly) with Pudge's rambling final essay that kind of fell short of the character himself.

All in all, a good read.

This one is hard to write a review for. I liked it, I really really did; the characters and setting were so vivid that I know it's going to stick with me for a long time. But I honestly felt zero sympathy with Alaska, and it was almost painful that Pudge and the Colonel and everyone else loved her so much. I don't know why, or if my feelings will change with time, but it frustrated me to no end. Had she been different, somehow, I probably would have been bawling my eyes out, but as it stands I thought it was a good book but that's it.
