Super quick chapters, would advise listening on audio. 40 seconds to 8 minute (max) long chapters

It's no secret I want to believe. I'm a cryptid lover from way back and this book is a fun encyclopedia type collection of the many, many iterations of the different cyptids that can be found (or maybe not found?) across the United States.
Sure you've probably heard of Champ, The Jersey Devil, and Mothman. But have you heard of the Norfolk Mermaid, the Oklahoma Octopus, or the Hopkinsville Goblin?
Each chapter is devoted to a different cryptid, it's origin story, and how locals have either denied or embraced the oddness among them. Some towns treat their cryptid as part of the local charm, throwing parades and festivals in their honor, naming their sports teams after them, others would prefer if all the hub bub would just blow over.

Fun “reference” guide on the cryptid creatures in the US. I got the kindle version hoping for drawings but it was very word heavy so I listened to the audible version.

This book is fine. Didn't like it as much as I thought I would, but I don't dislike it. There's some interesting stuff, but the author's fixation with towns and cities capitalizing on cryptids, plus his jokes really annoyed me. Still gonna read some of his other books If I can find them in the local library's catalog.

Really interesting look at not just cryptids and their stories but how the intertwine with USA culture and identity.
