Really interesting, sad account of the damage that can follow a child through life.

Fascinating, disturbing, thought-provoking. Cowan's story encourages me to have more compassion for some of the older women in my family. Wish I'd read this with my book club, as I think it would have stimulated a lot of discussion and personal storytelling. Highly recommend.

This is as a different kind of memoir than is described (as very heightened in its mystique) in the book jacket and ends up being more of a mother-daughter story. Nonetheless, I did like how she laid out her complicated relationship- based on how her mother had been left at a children’s home as an infant... and the impact that abandonment had had on her inadequacies as a mom.

A very interesting book, about the Foundling Hospital in London. How awful.

A compelling story about a heartbreaking place full of "foundlings". This book was a mix of memoir and history. It was interesting but the tone read a bit too textbook-like for me to love it.

A daughter researches her mother's history. She had a rocky relationship with mother, but didn't begin really searching until after her death.
