I really enjoyed this-more than I thought I would.

It was everything that FBAA wishes it was. I have to say, I think a big part of how much I enjoyed it was due to the fact that it was K.A. Tucker, and it was so different from the other things I've read from her. It it weren't for the author challenge, I may not have ever come across this one.

Can't wait for the next one!

This is an interesting but meandering story with a lot of set up and dense mythology (I definitely started skimming those bits as the book progressed). It took quite a while to get to the point in the story where things started to happen. I'd like to say that things moved pretty quickly from that point on, but they didn't. There's a lot of hemming and hawing from the heroine about what she should do and a lot of political maneuvering without that much action.

Still, I was interested in what was going on and I wondered how things would pan out. The book ends with things up in the air, though I can't quite say it's a cliff hanger. I may read the next installment to see if things improve now that the world building has been established, but I can't say I'm chomping at the bit to read it. If the next book wasn't readily available at the library I'd probably forget about this series and not return to it.

Slight spoiler alert…

It took me a bit to get into this book and the length gave me pause because of that but I’m really glad I stuck with it. I really liked this book and every character. The heroine was smart and caring and that made you root for her. The only part I didn’t love was how easily the hero let Romy go at the end. That did not sit well with me and I hope he’s forced to redeem himself bc I feel he has some work to do on that end.

KA Tucker - she could write absolutely anything and I’m going to read it. Everything she writes is fantastic, and her newest novel, A Fate of Wrath and Flame is no different.

A Fate of Wrath and Flame follows a young woman named Romeria from New York City who works as a thief for a well known crime boss. When her boss is murdered by this unknown woman named, Sofie, Romeria is forced to join her on a trip to Belgium to help her get her husband back. Without knowing how or why she’s being tasked with this role, Sofie transports Romeria into an alternate universe by stabbing her with a horn owned by the fate, Malachi.

At first, Romeria has no idea what has happened to her or where she has gone. In this new world, she has taken over the body of Princess Romeria of Ybaris, who is being accused of just murdering the King and Queen of Islor.

Romeria becomes a prisoner under the control of the new King of Islor, Zander, who she learns was the original Princess’ betrothed. At first, no one trusts Romeria due to what her evil doppelgänger had done. However, she begins to put doubt into everyone’s minds as they realize Romeria truly has no recollection of what happened before she was transported into this body and that the original Romeria and this new Romeria are two different people all together.

I loved loved loved Romeria and Zander’s story line. Anytime they’d be together, I relished in the scene, and whenever they were a part, I looked forward to their reunion. Romeria’s demeanor was also so great - you can take the girl outta New York, but you can’t take the New York outta the girl. The way she acts and speaks is by no means how a Princess should act, but that made it all the better when convincing everyone she didn’t do what she’s being accused of. I also loved her newfound friendship with her guard, Elisaf. No way the original Princess would even remotely tried to converse with someone like him.

Overall, KA Tucker knocked it out of the park with her new fantasy story, as expected. I can’t wait to see where the story unfolds in the second book!

Would I Reread? Definitely!
