“You feel so fucking good, little psycho. See, I knew you weren’t bad. Look at how good you’re being.”

This was a delight!
I had this on my radar for a year now. So, I’m super excited, that it turned out so good!

I enjoyed a lot in the dynamics between Rome&Devin

I’m all in, when it comes to some psycho manic panic 🤭

Might elaborate later

I highly appreciated the thorough information by the author :

Author info:
This is a dark romance and there are themes that may be triggering for some readers. There’s graphic description of drug use, parental neglect and abuse, homophobic slurs, stalking, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, dubious consent, and violence between the main characters. The kinks in this book include knife play, blood play, degradation, boot worship, pain play, and a healthy dose of spit.

“Dedication – to anyone who struggles during the holiday season. Take a page from Rome and Devin’s book and tell them to fuck off and mind their own business.”

Every year, I try to read one holiday novella/novel; this year… it was His Revelry. It wasn’t much of a holiday read, but it was PERFECT. Soon as I read some of the dedication, I knew this book was going to be for me. The moment that I noticed His Revelry was on my Kindle, I devoured it and didn’t stop reading until I finished it.

MM, substance abuse, shitty home life, “coming of age”, redemption, grittiness, dark, steamy… yeah, it has everything I love.

These two boys have been through a lot and somehow manage to stay standing. How is beyond me. After an incident between Devin and Rome, the two main characters, their friendship falls apart. Devin still cares for Rome, but goes on with his life, trying to pretend as if everything is okay. Rome is a little psychopath, whom I love. He’s a walking train wreck, out for revenge. You’ll have to read the novella to find out if he gets it.

His Revelry contains many trigger warnings – me, personally, I just ignored all that and dove right in. There was not anything that was over the top or too much for me to handle.

This book has a semi-large scene that takes place at a carnival, which is a theme that I recently discovered that I love being in books. The “holiday” aspect is mentioned for 2 seconds in the book and it’s winter in Florida… so, it counts as my holiday novella!

Rome and Devin were everything and I really would love to read more about them!

“Because if you’re not in it, I’d love nothing more than to watch the world burn.”

Rome and Devin both come from a messed up home life. Drawn to each other because of that. They understand each other in ways no one else could.

Until Devin screws it all up and takes off on Rome and send him spiraling in a big way.

The dynamic between them was surprising, I actually expected it to go the other way. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it even though it wasn’t what I was expecting for them.

The ending was perfect and definitely leaves them in a place of happiness and healing ❤️

Rome and Devin are childhood friends that grew up in the same trailer park. They both knew poverty and they both endured physical and emotional abuse at the hands of their fathers. They eventually start to develop feelings for each other. Rome is OK with those feelings. Devin's not coming around as quickly and is trying to come to terms with how he feels. At one point, Devin cuts Rome out of his life and this story is about Rome dealing with that sense of loss. He does everything in his power to try and pull Devin back in.

I enjoyed this book for what it was. It's a quick read and has a pretty good story. I like the characters and would have actually enjoyed a longer book to dig in a bit deeper. Her other books are on my TBR and after getting a sense of her writing, I'm looking forward to reading those.

I was never a fan of novellas, but I've found they definitely have their place in the book world. They are the perfect palette cleansers for when you've finished a book and don't know what you're ready to get in to next. Or...you finish a book right before bed and want a quick read. Plus, they're perfect if you've been wanting to try out a new trope or trigger. I had been wanting to try out some knife and blood play and it was mentioned that this book had one light scene with with both, so I decided to give it a shot. It worked in perfectly with these characters and their story, so I didn't mind it. I'd definitely like to explore it a bit more.

Nickname: Little Psycho

It’s just us in this cyclone of torment, with havoc being wreaked outside and perfect calm within these walls.

I used to think novellas were cruel because they are generally short, but I find myself changing my mind. This one was a recommendation I saw through my Instagram. I'm glad I took note of it because a good dark romance story is the only sucker punch to my feelings that I'd ever gleefully volunteer for. I mean, damn, 85 pages (on my Kindle, at least), and by the twenty-something page, I already wanted to punch something. I still enjoyed it, of course, but watching that amount of pain be put into words was just, oof. Definitely enjoyable, even short as it was.

Some important notes that bear mentioning: first, reviews are highly subjective, including mine. My opinion is meant to give an overview of what I saw/felt when I read it (and how it may or may not have made my brain explode). What I see might not be what you see, and what I like (or don't) might not be what you enjoy, which is just fine. My advice to anyone looking into a book? Read the premise, and if it interests you enough, give it a chance and form your own opinion.

His Revelry is a mixed bag that stems from it being a bit too short to fully flesh out the narrative.

I adored this book, it was everything I needed, and the tropes were just so perfectly placed in this book. Bailey Nicole has easily become a insta buy author for me, they just have such good characters who jump off the page and have so much backstory for these books to be on the shorter side.
