It gets more than one star because I need to follow the story through, now. Even if I must continue reading this stilted dialogue and poor character development.

Even as I'm writing this review, I'm having trouble expressing how I feel about this book. The second installment in the series, I felt there weren't too many surprises. For some reason I keep waiting for huge twists that will change the story one way or the other. Many times I found myself irked by America's hypocrisy. She's also incredibly indecisive for someone who is otherwise written as strong-willed and independent. Then America had the realization that she too, was frustrated with herself. This was a turning point in the story for me and kept me going. Still intrigued how this will all end.

I actually did not finish this book, I got maybe a quarter in and called it quits. I didn't expect much out of The Selection, nor did I get much out of it either, but it was an okay read. This was basically a sorry excuse for a sequel. It goes back and forth between America obsessing over Maxon, but her confused feelings for her old boyfriend as well. Meanwhile I'm just asking myself "why am I reading this?" It's pretty rare I put a book down because I don't think it's worth my time, but The Elite is definitely not something I want to waste my valuable reading time on.
