I read this book because I had really enjoyed the TV show version based on this novel. Because of that, I did read the book with some expectations of the storyline, and the characters, and often it seems that the first version of the story you encounter is usually your favorite. So while I loved the TV show, I found the novel so so. It was still good, and I probably would have enjoyed it more had I not seen the TV show first. The changes they made for the TV show really made it more intriguing and I think their choices were really strong. So then I found the novel a bit lacking. Still glad I read it, but would recommend the TV show and skip the novel.

I don’t know...I kept reading this book because for some reason I felt like it was a mystery I wanted to figure out but you find out right away who actually kills Alex so...🤷🏻‍♀️

Honestly the CIA/KGB spy storyline was super confusing and unexpected for me lol and I felt like it was either unnecessary or needed to be elaborated on more in regards to Cassie’s BIL, friend Megan, etc.

The ending was ridiculous!

This was a random grab. I knew it had been adapted into a streaming show, but I'd never watched it. And I knew it was about a raging alcoholic woman who spends most nights blackout drunk. So I was wary. But I tried. And it was... okay. It was clearly inspired, at least the drunk parts, by Sarah Hepola and the author's note at the end confirmed that he did, in fact, become fascinated with her memoir and write much of this with that in mind. And it was an interesting attempt at a spy novel, though I don't think his style is suited to it. The series of reveals at the end didn't follow the set up and it was all a little too pat. There was none of the genuine tension of The Midwife. Not the worst thing I ever read, but probably actually better suited to screen than page.

Relistened 20th Dec 2022 as I am watching the series on tv. Have to say the book is very different and not that great

A very slow paced book which had me rooting for the 'villain' of the book. I found Cassie to be unlikeable but was genuinely surprised by the ending. I thought it was a nice way to tie everything up.

This is a solid book worth reading, but it just didn't catch my attention like I was hoping it would. Ultimately the story is fairly interesting but feels bogged down by something that I just can't put my finger on. I think it comes down to Cassie - I know that complicated main characters are essential, but I just couldn't care enough about her or her situation to become invested. With that being said, the final big twist at the end and the epilogue made it worth the read for me and I would still recommend it.

This book really was about the dealings of a flight attendant. There isn't much that happens with the premise on the back of the book or that was built up in the first few chapters.  It is very repetitive. All in all I preferred the show.

3.5 Stars. Easy to read psychological suspense novel. I was not a fan of the main character because she is just such a terrible person, but the mystery kept me hooked and I was surprised by the ending.
