I enjoyed the book.

But lets start with what I did not like:-

~But I think the murder in itself was a little over complicated. That is nit something i've seen in her later works. And it was honestly annoying to some extent. I don't think the suspects were fleshed out enough or that there were enough red herrings.

~The general Hercule Poirot clues were present at convenience. It was a little messy.

It wasnt Death on the nile(Though I knew the murder even before the murder happened, I still enjoyed the setting and the lush writing. I think its some of the best writing by agatha ) or Murder of roger ackroyd , which are my favourite Agatha Christie novel. But it was still good.

Fun parts:-

~Agatha Christie is always fun

~I appreciated the nature of the commentary on women by the narrator which was undoubtedly a satirical view of the male gaze. The narrator's commentary on women in the story, other men and typically his intelligence and diplomacy were very ironical and satirical and I was able to enjoy the story wholeheartedly because it was just so fun to watch Mr. Hastings suffer.

Seperti biasa, buku Agatha Christie emang ga mengecewakan.
Baru kali ini aku baca kisah dimana Poirot aja bingung buat mecahin mata rantai terakhir

"These little grey cells. It is ‘up to them’—as you say over here."
This was Christie's first novel and the introduction of her famous detective Hercule Poirot and the hapless Hastings. Incredibly, it already contains many of the elements for which Christie would become famous: a locked room murder, multiple red herrings, the final drawing room reveal, etc. I really enjoyed Poirot and Hasting's interactions, which made me chuckle every time Poirot subtly hinted to Hastings that maybe he wasn't seeing all that clearly and Hastings completely misunderstands him. It makes the reader feeling "in" on the joke, even when you're also still a bit clueless as to the who, what, where, when.

A thoroughly enjoyable mystery from the best of the genre!

I really like Agatha Christie novels. They are good old-fashioned Detective novels where you get clues and you sniff around them like Blue leading a guy in a striped top.

I like to think that I am quite good at them, and I do very often work out the plots of crime novels or police procedurals, but I was stumped by this one. Everything that I thought was true was in fact a complete work of my own imagination. I was frustrated at myself for being a fool, when actually, it was written to lead astray the reader, and I don't really think that we were ever going to sort it all out.
That is the beauty of these books. They maintain our interest by making us work but without giving us anything substantial to ruin the ending.

I liked the plot and the characters, I liked Poirot's style and flair and I liked the whole feel of the book. I wish that we had been given a little bit more every now and then, but this was the problem with having Hastings as our narrator rather than Poirot. If Poirot didn't trust Hastings then he didn't trust us, so we were kept at arm's length rather than being privy to some of his thought processes.

When I read the next Poirot novel I am going to read at a nice, slow pace and really try and take it all in to see if I do better...!
