For grafiske beskrivelser af misbrug af børn. Jeg håber inderligt, at forfatteren fik noget godt ud af at skrive bogen og jeg værdsætter også, at den er udgivet og har læsere, når det (forhåbentligt da) er meningsfuldt for hende, men jeg har svært ved at forstå, hvad folk får ud af bogen... Jeg fik det fysisk dårligt af den flere gange og er kommet frem til, at det bliver nødt til at være min første DNF nogensinde, for den føles lidt som den mørkeste side af hele "true crime"-fascinationen. Ikke at jeg på nogen måde er hellig og ikke er faldet i fælden selv, men det er ikke noget, jeg er stolt af, for der er unægteligt noget virkelig fucked up ved vores kultur med det...

Puha. Jeg ønsker forfatteren og andre ofre af kulten ALT det bedste og må de fortælle deres historie ligeså ofte og med ligeså mange detaljer, som de vil og har brug for, men jeg bliver nødt til ikke at være læser på den her.

I read enough that I rarely find books that churn my stomach and yet this one did. Jones is so frank and open about her experiences in the Children of God cult and oh wow it was a lot. I wish she had spent a little less time on the back and forth of what was happening day by day and more on her life post-cult. It seems like she just suddenly left, went to university and was now 41 years old and giving a Tedx talk. I wish there had been more about her deconstruction and return to mainstream society, but I also get that maybe isn't a part of her life she's ready to reflect on at this point. Either way, check trigger warnings for this book before reading, because it's incredibly heavy.

This is absolutely nothing against the book, in fact I found it really interesting. That being said this is so graphic and disturbing reading about graphic details of childhood sexual abuse that I just can’t stomach it at this point in time. Maybe I’ll pick this up again in the future.
