Only finished this in my second attempt. I guess I'm finally too old for YA as I'm really struggling to find any other word for the main character but obnoxious.

I really wanted to like this book. The concept is super cute but the execution isn't. The only thing I liked was Devin and the trans rep (love that neopronouns were included!)

I think my biggest issue was that the description of this book is very misleading. Maybe that's just a me problem bc I know some people don't like reading the descriptions. But I was expecting a cute fake dating story... and that's not what this was.

The main character is so insufferable and self-absorbed. Like I know characters can have flaws but there's a difference between having flaws and just being a bad person/friend/boyfriend. It felt like every relationship the main character had was toxic. Why do people still hang out with him? I will never know.

Also, the two romantic relationships that happen in this book felt very insta-lovey?
Like because we were spending so much time with Drew in the first half, we barely got to build up the relationship with Devin and it all just felt very rushed at the end.

Definitely a novel for teenagers. Wish I had this book when I was Noah's age, he's painfully relatable, from his candor and innocence towards relationships, his trust in Great Love. I actually had to take breaks because it reactivated long lost feelings and situations I lived. It felt good to read about a genderqueer character. It was the first time I encountered someone like me in a novel. Boy it feels good.

other than a few things i personally wish had been developed more* this was a super cute trans romcom. the characters were all awesome (well except one but that was the point).
*it was a long book so i can forgive easily. there’s not room for everything in one book.

I really wanted to like this book, because of how much the book has been hyped and how cool the author seems. But I just could not like this book. For one Noah, the main character was too self-absorbed and acted very entitled. He used his parent's credit card without a care in the world. I would never have done that as a teen. He still borrowed money from his brother without a care and then he still gets his mom to unfreeze his parent's card. This kid barely made an effort to get a job.

The relationship between Drew and Noah felt like instant love and they were to their relationship way too fast. I sorta felt the way about the relationship between Noah and Devin as well. Although their's was more gradual and made a bit more sense.

I almost felt like this book was an ad for Tumblr. This book mentions it so much because of the Meet Cute Diary blog. When reading the blurb for the book I thought that the blog would be a website not a blog on Tumblr. At the end of the book, it is mentioned that Noah and Becca finally open the blog up for submissions and it's like, why did not submissions before or ask people to submit their own love stories. That just seems obvious to me. Then that way people accusing Noah of telling lies or stealing others' stories might not have happened.

It kept feeling aww poor Noah but what your friends they need you too. But in the end, Noah seemed like the same person, besides realizing that the blog is not everything in the world.
