[sigh] and I thought I finally found a good fashion-forward story to read
Icky. Repetitive. Unclear. Soft. Bland. Badly written.
But it had potential and was sometimes building well on the idea of love, friendship and passion.

The French Kiss
By: Lauren Landish
Narrated by: Carly Robins, Rock Engle
Fun! Fun! Fun! That is what Lauren Landish has given us with The French Kiss! Emily in Paris meets Project Runway, Autumn goes to Paris to take part in a fashion contest with a major player in the industry. Feisty and focused, she is determined to prove to herself and her mother that she can make it! Little does she know exactly what France has to offer her. Simon, a fashion model takes a shine to the small town designer, and the two become secretly inseparable. But what will come of the two when it's all over? Is what Tobias says is true regarding men? Competitive friends, an over the top matriarch, a dog impossible not to love and a couple that sizzles in every scene, Landish creates a world of fierce competition, jealousy and love. The laugh out loud scenes, the frustration we could feel and the passion make this a must listen!
Carly Robins and Rock Engle bring it all to life. Robins is fantastic as Autumn. She's spunky, ambitious and passionate, wearing her heart on her sleeve and making us feel everything Autumn does. Engle pops out with a phenomenal French accent as Simon, winning my heart just by listening! He does an amazing job getting into Simon's head, letting us feel where he started, and where he is going.Sensual and alluring he is fabulous. These two made this listen so enjoyable, it's one you have to grab!

DNF - Chapter 6. Just Blah. Messing up my reading cadence. A week and only on chapter 6, but I've read 6 other books. Tells me I just don't like this story.
Too many Harry Potter references that fall flat when you have to Google because you never read Harry Potter. Too wanna be "cool" and "trendy" references which clash with the Harry Potter references. Pale, red head, in Paris, walks in a room twerking and rapping WAP.... really???

Simon’s internal monologue is so cringe. Watching a fashion show and thinking “why aren’t we discussing politics or poverty”. Seeing homeless people on the street and thinking “there’s nothing I can do for them right now” despite being a millionaire. Thinking that he has something in common with homeless people because his rich aunt took him in otherwise “who knows what could have happened. STFU PLEASE.
Also his little fight with one of the homeless boys? Saying its ok because he’s almost 18? Grow up please.

I’m sorry this was just so cringy and boring. Maybe it would have gotten better, but I want to read books I’ll enjoy.

Liked: Lauren is definitely the author to go to for a steamy read! On the face of it Simon is the gorgeous French model who could have anyone or anything he wants. But when you get below his pretty surface he has a heart of gold who wants to help those less fortunate than him. Him and Autumn have undeniable chemistry, which burns through the pages.
Disliked: It felt quite padded out with fluff and sex scenes. Not much else until the fashion show drama. And I’m over the bitchy ex character as a book’s drama.
OW/OM drama: OW tries to sabotage the h by kissing the H at a show.

Autumn and Simon
This was a pretty different scenario (the whole fashion designer aspect) to any other romance book I’ve read so far so that was fun.
A couple of things I didn’t like…The sex club could have been infinitely sexier. They go and have normal sex in a private room? Just stay home for that. The options were endless there.
I like how that 👆🏻was resolved and enjoyed the rest of the book. There were some great sex scenes for sure. 4🔥
