I really loved how the author portrayed Laineyā€™s struggle with anxiety. Besides that most of this book felt predictable to me. It was good and a fun read, but nothing super special.Ā

Their time in Alaska was cute but the whole ā€œlie for a lieā€ premise didnā€™t seem reasonable to me.

Also wasnā€™t a fan of the guy.

The author made some ā€¦ interesting choices in regards to one of the characters backstories, that ended up feeling very out of place in this book.Ā

I also wouldā€™ve liked it a lot better if the chapters taking place a year ago hadnā€™t been presented in one go but rather in between the chapters of Rook and Lainey meeting again, building the story up to the ā€˜revealā€™ in the present time.Ā

I definitely guessed the ā€œtwist,ā€ or Lanieā€™s secret pretty early, but since it isnā€™t revealed til the middle of the book I wonā€™t reveal it here. Itā€™s not my favorite trope to read, and this book is very insta-lust, insta-love, but it was cute and a decent read.Ā

I didnā€™t like the lack of female empowerment - Lanie gets a job as a marine biology researcher at a zoo, and everyone keeps calling her a tour guide. Why do we as a society feel the need to belittle smart women? She had three masterā€™s degrees. Sheā€™s earned the acknowledgment of her own damn job title.Ā
