What a truly wild ride. I got this recommendation from TikTok and was not disappointed. A woman goes on a cruise with her boyfriend, but when she wakes up the next day, the ship is seemingly abandoned and still cruising through the northern Atlantic. Without giving any spoilers, I'd say that the first portion of this novel should be classified as a thriller, before it shifts into horror. I need everyone to read this so we can freak out about the ending together.

Don’t waste your time on this. This could have been at least half the length considering there were three chapters dedicated to Caroline climbing a ladder. Three, I am not kidding. The concept was so intriguing that I ignored negative reviews. I won’t even get into all of the significant plot holes.

I went into this knowing the premise - a woman wakes up on a cruise ship and finds she's the only person on the ship. Definitely interesting, but I wondered how that could carry any entire 400+ novel. Well, within the first few chapters the whole premise changes; our narrator Caz isn't the only person on the cruise ship, but one of four. My interest was piqued again, but when the whole point of the novel, the big twist was revealed, it was a little disappointing. A reality show? There were more questions than answers, and with the explanation given, I still found myself thinking, "Huh?" And then, when all is said and done, and the book is wrapping up, the final gut punch twist at the end didn't excite me or reinvested, instead I thought, "Really? Again? Why?"

Despite the strange narrative, I did find the book overall enjoyable. Quick, fast paced chapters made it easy to read and I found myself devoting large chunks of time towards reading. The characters were unique, and despite a slightly convoluted narrative, rarely did I find myself not believing their reactions or motivations.

It was good and kept my attention throughout. I was going to give it a 4 or 5, but that ending killed it for me.

This book is off the scale bonkers and completely ridiculous. But also, disturbingly moreish.

I guess reading it was a little bit like eating a bag of Twiglets. Twiglets are a wheat-based snack that are flavoured with secretions from Satan’s anus. Eating one Twiglet causes your face to melt, your eyes to bleed and snakes to come out of your ears, and yet, after eating one you simply must have another, and another etc etc.

As with all mysteries like this, I wanted it to be aliens.. Unfortunately it was just Claudia Winkleman in a wet suit.
