I almost DNF’d this book. I got bored about halfway through the book. I didn’t really find it compelling or interesting.

I have a lot of mixed feelings about this book. I’d give the plot a 4, and the writing a 2, so we’re going to average it out to a 3.

The Plot: Up until the very end of the first act,
where we have that first big twist
, I was very bored by this book. I thought about putting it down but stuck with it because of the glowing reviews. I’m glad that I did so, because the plot really picked up after that and things started to come together and get exciting. If this book had been this exciting throughout, I would have given it a 4.5 for the plot, but unfortunately it was not.

The Writing: The plot of this book made up for the poor writing a little bit, but not enough for me to rate it anything higher than a 3. Even though I was really enjoying the narrative in the last half of the book, I kept thinking about how much the writing bothered me. Changing perspectives of the narrator can be done well, and it was at some points of the book, but at other points it felt like the author was repeating plot points from different characters POVs without adding any new perspective or details. It felt repetitive with no real value. I also didn’t like the unnecessary details included throughout. I really didn’t need to know the exact route a character took to get where they were going or the details of what they ate today. It took up space without adding value in my opinion.

Overall, I’m glad I read this book but I wouldn’t reread it. If the things I complained about don’t matter to you, then I could recommend this book, but it is certainly not the next “Gone Girl”.

A man drinking at an airport bar meets a woman and they talk about killing his wife, she agrees to help. But why would she help him? Who is she? And will they go through with it?

While this is a twisty mystery thriller with multiple POVs, none of the main characters are particularly likable. And the men are quite misogynistic and obsessed with women and sex, it was like half the men's POVs were describing the woman's bodies sexually especially the breasts and how clothes fit them. I hope all men aren’t like these men on the inside! Even the women whose POVs you got weren't likable. Basically, all the MCs were trash human beings.

I only gave a high-ish rating because the overall plot was good even if the characters while detailed and complex, were unlikable, and the book had an overall misogyny to it.

Unfortunately unsatisfying. I thought this was totally average.
It had a few moments that made me squeal from the suspense, but I felt like a loooot of it was pretty boring.
The best part: Lily's backstory chapters
The worst part: All the descriptions of driving!!! I found the names of the roads & which cardinal directions they were going to be confusing & long-winded, as someone who is already from New England but directionally-challenged, lol. I just found a lot of the scenic descriptions in general to be quite boring. :P

Picked this up because I was looking for a thriller I could finish in a single day (My Sister, The Serial Killer is one I recommend) but this one took me 4 days. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I don't think I'll be picking up the sequel.
