This book very much feels like the second in a series, but not in a bad way. A lot happens in the book, but it feels sort of like a stepping-stone to get to the resolution of the third book. The 2nd and 3rd books are some of the best depiction in literature of PTSD that I've ever read.Ā

This was a re-read for me. The book was absolutely devastating. I forgot how heartbreaking the story is, particularly the first half of the book . It's a crazy experience to feel such sympathy for fictional characters.

How is it possible that I enjoyed this book even more than the first one? Katnissā€™ world is in flux and it felt like there was a constant stream of twists and turns. This book definitely sets up the third book, but it didnā€™t feel like a middle book in a trilogy. It has much less fighting/hunger games than the first book but a lot of uncertainty and character development in the face of the Panemā€™s changes. My heart aches for Peetaā€¦

Really good book, as was the first one. The plot in this book was especially well devised, and the creativity and connectedness of the story definitely surpasses the first novel. This book was a fun read (if incredibly emotional and traumatic) and met my expectations! However, the writing style is a bit ā€youngā€, which can make it a bit boring/unenjoyable at times (not significantly).
