As much as I enjoyed this book I didnt connect with the characters and the story as much as I would have liked. When sad things happened I wasn't crazy invested and it was a lil predictable. Its very hunger games but a lessened version the author a lot of the time feels the need to spell out the characters trauma to you and it becomes a recurring theme that I kind of got bored of hearing (I don't know if this is due to the nature of YA)
Will definitely be reading the next book when it comes out and im glad I read this book!!

well this was a really good debut novel! lauren roberts has a lot of potential - this book is definitely a testament to that (really, some quotes were lovely). i enjoyed the plot and the tension/banter between the characters, but i felt like some of those relationships were undeveloped (minus the fmc/mc). a few parts also felt like a bunch of popular tropes thrown in, and there were also quite a few spelling mistakes... namely one on the blurb of my edition 💀💀 also some words were overused imo - like pls search up some synonyms 🫠 thankfully it doesn't take too much out of the story
was i thoroughly entertained and hooked tho? yes. i will be

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the reading experience and found it to be a combination of Red Queen and The Hunger Games but it wasn’t the best. It was very tropey with some really problematic relationships, repetitive description/events and some major plot holes. It just didn’t feel like it had been properly developed.
I don’t want to entirely criticise this book as it was kinda cool but just not what I thought it would be. I found myself laughing at points that were supposed to be tragic as I just didn’t care enough about the tragedy.
Overall I enjoyed it but it really wasn’t the greatest and I’m not sure if I’ll reread/continue with the series.

I bought this as soon as I found Lauren Roberts on TikTok but never read it. Powerless has made an appearance on monthly TBRs, but again I didn’t read it. I haven’t gotten into fantasy romances before because of the length. What finally made me want to read was Sara Carrolli ❤️
This book has tension, goooood banter, forbidden love (in a way), and deception. It was a great first fantasy romance. Very much reminded me of the trials from the Hunger Games but also a movie with a similar plot of someone born to kill the very thing he ends up growing closer to. I can’t remember the name of the movie for the life of me. Can’t wait for the remainder of the series. I have some theories!
