1.1⭐️. This was the closest I’ve come and most I’ve ever wanted to DNF a book, but I powered through in the name of being able to discuss it at book club. The writing style, flowery descriptions, never ending paragraphs, the book only being broken into four agonizingly long parts, and the pedophilia vibes made this a huge nope for me.

I’m pretty sure Louis is the most boring, woe is me vampire to ever exist. He could have told his story, in adequate detail, in less than 20 minutes, but instead we get subjected to 10+ hours (depending on reading/audiobook speed) of word vomit.

The whole situation with Claudia was very disturbing to me. Even though her mind matured as the book went on I continued to view her as the five year old girl that she started out as when she was turned. The way Louis would describe parts of her face, like her lips and cheeks, and the way she would dance in her nightgown as sensual was super cringe.

I listened along to the audiobook as I read and I did enjoy the narrator. Having the audiobook was the saving grace that made this book slightly bearable.

Lush, intoxicating, gothic, brooding sexiness. A modern classic.
