Maybe it's because I had high expectations for this book since being introduced to Win & Kev in the prequel, Mine Till Midnight, but I was thoroughly disappointed. In MTM, Kev is gentle, protective, a problem-solver, and somewhat territorial over the whole family. In this book, he rages and is constantly at the end of his fuse. He's always ready to beat someone up, making him no better than the antagonist of the book. Really, there's no difference only that the antagonist is sneakier.

In fact, I'm surprised Kev is the hero. He's emotionally abusive. One minute, he's kissing Win and the next he's stomping out the door. One page has him scaring away her suitors while another has him vowing that he'd rather see her marry someone other than him. Seriously, I wish romance authors would stop glorifying men who threaten to kill anyone who looks at their woman funny. It's not healthy, but the author passes off Kev's obsessiveness as remnants of his abusive past. However, one of the other characters points out that he's lived twice as many years in an affectionate household as he did in an abusive one. He should've grown out of it. You can even tell his darkness wasn't even that strong because all the other characters were able to talk him out of his stupidity.

This was also frustrating. Kev just did what the others told him to do instead of grappling with his own emotions, prejudices, and traumas. He's not a three-dimensional character. He's basically a villain's lackey. I felt bad for the antagonist because he astutely recognized that Win was being manipulated while everyone else was telling Kev what to do. Blegh.

Good too, but Kev was sometimes too stuborn with no reason, boarding cruel and coward. Win at least was very upfront and when she thought he was too hard to get, she decided she wouldn’t waste her time on him and instead live her life.
The “villain” was a little pathetic.

It was nice to see Amelia and Cam again, and Leo recovering, altough his oppinion of the governess was very off putting.
Cool that they managed to keep up a little with all characters with some grow.

Lovely and engaging read - I'm a complete sucker for the dark, brooding and tortured heroes so, of course, Kev is now my favorite Hathaway hero.

The yearning, passion and sensuality of Kev and Win's romance is captivating. While Kev's stubborn refusal to admit his deep and abiding love for Win is frustrating at times, it is nevertheless understandable in light of his past and actually serves to highlight the intensity of his feelings.

Win is simply lovely. Her strength and determination in facing the obstacles to her heart's desire and her need to seize everything that life has to offer make her an irresistible heroine.

The secondary characters are charming (love that Dodger) and the villain is more suitably punished in this as compared to book #1.

Finally, the hints at the upcoming romance between Leo and Catherine are very enticing.

4.5 stars.

I wanted more scenes like when he walked her to the park grumbling about how the road wasn’t good enough for her. It kept mentioning how fiercely he felt for her etc etc and we saw more of it in the previous book because she was sick. Don’t get me wrong, he still cared for her but I expected him to be more overbearing than he was and it just left me wanting more. I wish we saw them during the pregnancy and not just the epilogue because I think that’s exactly where all that would have happened but it was glossed over quickly to end with a really sweet naming scene. Overall I really really liked the story, but I just wanted a little something more.
