Wasn't a huge fan of this book. The writing was good, but it was repetitive with the Protagonist wondering who was setting her up on what felt like every other page. Plot was really good and nice solid characters. Ending was disappointing and anticlimactic to me.
I'm sure there are those who will disagree with me and find this a really good book, but it just lack a little for me. Because of the solid characters and great plot in rating a 4 stars.

Thank you to Netgalley and the author and publisher for an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.

Audiobook. 3.5. Second book in what I assume will be a series tho this one follows a completely different main character. Plot is good with some twists. Just didn’t like the main character. She made the worst choices and I didn’t love some of her repetitive thoughts and lack of growth. That said the plot is just one I want to see what happens next.

This book is a compulsive read, one that will keep you up past your bedtime. It follows the story of Stephanie Maddox, an FBI agent, when her son is under suspicion for domestic terrorism. It’s fast-paced from the first page and explores family and what we would all do for our children. Karen Cleveland has a long career ahead of her in writing thrillers.

This is a story about the lengths a mother will go to protect her child while at the same time, stopping them as guys. I was excited to see a book by Karen Cleveland as I loved her last book. I really liked the story and the characters. It is full of mystery and deception. At times I found it hard to follow because it jumped around to different people or a different time with no warning or separation. I’m not sure if the changes will be more clear in the published version.

Really liked the story, but felt like there needed to be an epilogue or some way to better end the story. If they did that, would have absolutely been a 5 star book for me.

How well do you really know the people you love the most? And what would you do to protect them? Those questions are at the core of Keep You Close - the second thriller by Karen Cleveland. I love books that challenge me to think about these things.

For a very brief plot summary - Stephanie Maddox is the head of Internal Investigations for the FBI. She is also a single mother to a 17 year old son who is anxiously waiting for college acceptance levels. When cleaning his room, she comes across a hidden gun. And then an FBI agent on the domestic terrorism squad shows up at her door with some questions about her son...how well does she really know him?

Last year, the author’s debut novel Need to Know was one of my favorite books so I came into this with high expectations. There were a lot of things I loved - it was a fast paced pageturner that really drew me in and I read it in one day. It felt a lot like watching great episodes of Alias or 24 - those heart-pounding moments when you are rooting for our main character to find the solution and stay ahead of the bad guys!

No spoilers - but I was disappointed in the ending. I wish there had been more. I am still really excited to read whatever the author writes next - I love a thriller that gets my heart racing!

Thank you very much to Netgalley and Ballantine for the free review copy in exchange for my honest review.

A few good twists at the end, but the beginning was slow and the plot was meh.

What was that ending? What happened? I don't know, because the novel never tells you. This better be cleared up in the next book because this one is clearly connected to her first book so I'm assuming the next is, well I hope so because this one ended on a cliffhanger.
Other then that ending, this novel was fast paced, interesting and it just flowed.
