It took some time to get through but it was hilarious, sharp, so so beautifully written, deeply observant.

Nathan Hill is a man of many, many, *many* words. Many segues, explanations, analyses. Reminiscent of Zadie Smith’s writing style. There is a good story here, but I was not anchored to the main characters enough to feel the voyage was worth it. Moral of the story: everyone’s got either mommy or daddy issues and marriage is work. Also, we need to touch grass more.

This will be going on my all-time favorite list. It's long and can be dense at times but all the seeming tangents come together and make sense in the end. So many layers and metaphors and studies on childhood trauma and generational trauma and figuring out who you really are and why, etc. Wow, such an incredible, important book

I was intrigued for the first 150 pages. But the book felt like it dragged and took to long to get to the point. When it finally did, it felt lackluster.
