The Sittaford Mystery is a standalone Christie that felt like it might have been an attempt to launch a new series character - if not a Marple or Poirot, then maybe an Ariadne Oliver or Superintendent Battle. Or even a new Tommy & Tuppence. Had I been around in the 1930s I might have suggested it to her. Of course I'm assuming here that had I been around in the 1930s, I'd have been friends with Agatha Christie. Everyone has their fantasies, is all I can say to that.

And on that note - I have read nothing but AC (on my Kindle, anyway) since last July. I have now officially finished my spree, at least for the moment, and the few I've left unread will remain so. It has been tremendously fun in a way that only other readers can possibly understand.

Book fourteen of my personal read through of Agatha Christie in publication order!

I must have read this before because I knew almost immediately was the solution to the mystery was (though I did doubt myself a few times along the way). Not quite a personal favorite because I don't LOVE any of the characters, but it was just perfectly wintery, cozy Agatha Christie mystery feel through the whole thing, and nearly every character was entertaining to read about.

Figured it out in the first chapter, but it was still one AMAZING story!

I really enjoyed this book. Christie does a great job of describing the setting and establishing the atmosphere from the very start. The seance is a nice touch, adding to the foreboding atmosphere. It is so clever the way seemingly disjointed facts are revealed to be important pieces of the puzzle.

I was surprised by the identity of the killer and had guessed it incorrectly even though there were clues included throughout the story. I'm keeping this vague so I don't spoil anything, but I admit I was a little disappointed in how things turned out for a couple of the main characters, but the clues were there for this part of the story, too. Overall, an entertaining mystery that I'm glad I read. (4.5 stars)
