I just didn't have the patience to get into this. I liked his writing, but some of the stories were definitely easier to get into than others.

My first experience with Borges. I loved the imagery of the repeating patterns, as well as his obvious fascination with infinite possibilities.

My first Borges. Some stories I loved, some went right through me without leaving a trace. So many references, religious and literary, that I didn’t know.

While I appreciated the first half of the book, most of those stories went over my head. However, I kept going, determined to make sense of the labyrinthine loopy writing, and I was not disappointed when I finally reached the last story of part one, “The Garden of Forking Paths,” which had a clearer narrative and much different in style to the previous stories. That story and those of part 2 were highly enjoyable or maybe I had just gotten used to the fantastical setups by that point. Overall the book demonstrated different facets of Borges as a writer - at times frustrating and outright bizarre but also whimsically thought-provoking.
