Nothing really happens in this book. If you have read the first one after a while you feel comfortable with the characters, but that's it.

Soooo this is a 2.5. Skye just became more annoying, I liked a few Asher scenes but he is sooo secretive that I just was not interested. I’m getting more confused on how the author is introducing new parts of the plot.

Nothing really happened in this book. I was disappointed in the lack of of plot. It seemed to be just a filler book so the series could be a trilogy.

Like its predecessor, [b:A Beautiful Dark|10429025|A Beautiful Dark (A Beautiful Dark, #1)|Jocelyn Davies|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1327916579l/10429025._SY75_.jpg|7790670], I really enjoyed this book. It's not perfect by any means, but there was a lot to appreciate about it.

Firstly, Skye experienced a lot of character growth throughout the novel. Unlike in the first book of the series, Skye made a conscious effort to exert more control over her life, make her own decisions, and resist the pressures of others. She also made great strides in understanding how her actions affected her friends and family. She learned to take responsibility for her behaviour and to be less selfish. I appreciated watching Skye evolve.

I also really liked how Skye's friends and her Aunt Jo become more central to the plot. At times, they were wallpaper characters in the first book, there to populate scenes but without any real role or purpose. Here, they propelled Skye's emotional growth. I loved seeing Skye come to appreciate how her behaviour and choices impacted her loved ones, especially Ian, Cassie and Aunt Jo.

Another improvement over A Beautiful Dark is that Asher become a more developed character. Here, he was more than just a cliché Bad Boy. He became a little more vulnerable, and his feelings for Skye were much more clear. Still, I would have liked to see their romance be a little more fleshed out; at times, I didn't quite understand why they had such strong feelings for each other, since their relationship was based on insta-love. It would have been nice for them to spend more time together actually talking and getting to know each other rather than just hooking up all the time! It would have given me a lot more insight into why they cared about each other.

I also enjoyed Raven's character progression. She became a more nuanced, three-dimensional character. I was happy to see her evolve beyond just being jealous and cruel.

Now on to my main problems with the book. They mostly centre on Devin. I had a hard time understanding Skye's feelings for him. After what he did at the end of A Beautiful Dark (I won't say more for fear of spoilers!), I couldn't comprehend her reaction to him. She still has romantic feelings for him, but I for one had a hard time wrapping my head around them.

Some things were hinted at and foreshadowed a little too obviously for my taste. I was able to guess what Skye would choose to do at the end of the novel at around page 50 due to some pretty obvious clues. The were also some clear hints that things weren't as they seemed with some people, but Skye was a bit slow on the uptake. I think most readers will be able to put the clues together faster than the plot reveals them. However, I didn't see one thing coming at the end of the novel, and it a great surprise.

The story could also become a little repetitive, because the narrative often repeats bits of writing from the first novel, or from earlier in the book, when Skye is remembering something that occurred during the first novel or
Spoilerrecalling a vision
. However, I thought that this was balanced out by some wonderful, creepy descriptive writing during Skye's dreams.

Overall, this was a fast, fun read, and a true page-turner. I devoured the book in one sitting. Once again, Davies' writing flows well, and her story held my attention throughout. My few criticisms of the book weren't detrimental to the overall reading experience, and I'll definitely read the next instalment of the trilogy.

FTC disclosure: I received this book through a Goodreads First Reads giveaway.

Can I just start by saying wowwwww! This one was way better than the first one and now I’m super excited to read the final book. Let’s just say Skye has really stepped up her game with her powers, finally coming to understand herself and I love it. Her friends are great and finally are pulled into the loop. And like I say on a lot of reviews I do, I like some romance but I’m really into the action. And while Skye knows she loves Asher but still has Devin on the brain, she makes the decision to be her own person and gosh I’m so happy for this ending even though her and Ashers hearts are breaking in the process. One thing I will say for sure is I really wish Devin would have went to her side, hmmm surprise, like Raven has. Can’t wait for what’s in store for the next book!

This book was better then the first one. It was still very formula-like and unoriginal, but I enjoyed it more as a story.

I don't have a list, at least, not like the other one, that will be nicely laid out. I used Post-It's last time, this time I was too absorbed. I'll try mt best though...

1. Skye and Asher end up together. Asher=dark angel. This is pretty typical for the girl protagonist - choosing the not so good guy as her boyfriend.
2. When she is hurt, she's whisked away to a remote location to heal, also pretty normal.
3. BFF eventually finds out, though I'm surprised that it happened later in the book then I thought.
4. Totally guess about Jo.

Like I said, not as refined as the other list. I like what I get out of doing the Post-Its, but I find that I miss the book too much when I do that. I like to just read without interruption (minus the normal daily things - shower, eat, work, stuff like that) but stopping to take notes about the book, make me feel that I'm not giving my all to it. It feels staggered. Sometimes I feel compelled to take notes, if the book is either absolutely horrible or if things just stand out that I want to write about.

Anyway, back to the book. I like the inner turmoil that Skye goes through. She's not totally sold on joining the Rebellion but she doesn't ever feel the need to join the Order. (If I were her, I'd go with the Rebels, I think what the Order does isn't fair.) Her struggles feel more normal and real in this book as compared to the first. Things happened too quickly in book one and she was making too many rash decisions. In book two, she seems to take her time, and she also makes her own decisions and doesn't let Asher or Devon make them for her. She stops letting them order her around.

Speaking of Devon, he gives me the creeps. He says he loves her, but I do believe it's because he's brainwashed by the Order. He doesn't understand love as apart of the Order, but maybe he'll learn now that he's switched sides (sorry, a bit of a spoiler, but come on, we all saw it coming).

I meant to add that I like that Davies left the visions unfulfilled. Some of them anyway. There's a vision Skye keeps having about being on a beach and it didn't happen yet in the series. It'll happen in book three, but the exposition of it in book two makes me feel anxious and that's a good thing.

This sequel to A Dark Divine was definitely better than the first one. Characters finally make sense and she makes a decision. Although I was disappointed by the fact that this novel defines the term "builder book". There really was no climax, simply a resolution of alot of questions. I wish there would have been more action at the end.
