i liked this one much better than the first two, and i think it is the best book in the series; i dont know if thats partly because i read this one as an ebook instead of listening to an audiobook like i did the first two, but it felt like there was a definite difference in writing.

this book is split into three different pov’s, so we aren’t just stuck in evangeline’s grating mind, and in this book i didn’t notice the overly repetitive dragging on narration that bothered me so much during the first two books. and although i was still screaming at evangeline throughout, this book was to me personally leaps and bounds better for her relationship chemistry with jacks than the other two…nothing like some high stakes outright PINING LONGING PAINFUL YEARNING and getting into the mind of the love interest to get you invested in some fantasy lovers.

idk if i would ever reread the series because there wasn’t enough gratifying fluff epilogue established relationship scenes for me to put myself thruough it all again; i wish we’dve gotten a bit more after everything i suffered, but the couple is cute and it did get a bit swoony in this book i won’t lie so by the end i did like them as a couple they kinda won me over.

also i face cast jacks as ricky from zb1 and you can’t change my mind!

“It had taken all the heartbreak, all the almost love and the wrong love, to know that this love was true love.”

Once Upon a Broken Heart trilogy has finally come to an end with this book!
This is one of my anticipated reads of 2023 and I’m quite satisfied with this ending.

It’s been a wonderful filled with loveable characters, enchanting world building, captivating fairytale vibes that comes with curses, magic, vampires and Fate.
I really enjoy my time following Evangeline right from the 1st book and I admire her for always believing in true love and her heart.

I also like discovering new information regarding the origin of the curses and also knowing more about the Vale family.
However, this book also comes with new questions without giving direct answers at the end which annoyed me a little bit.
But after reading the epilogue (from various different editions), I’m guessing the author has something up her sleeve for another adventure so I'll let this one slide!

As much as I like this book, I kinda wish there’s more of Jacks’s POV instead of Apollo. It feels like we’re seeing less of Jacks in this story, I would’ve loved to see more of him and Evangline together.

Overall, this book serves as a good ending and I absolutely love this trilogy as a whole. My favorite out of all 3 books would be The Ballad of Never After!
While I'm sad that I have to say goodbye to my two favorite characters, I’m glad to see Jacks and Evangeline finally got the ending they deserved.

“You are the love of my life.
You are mine, Jacks of the Hollow.
And you’re not going to be the end of me.”

I really wanted to like this series. I was sure there would be a clever loophole to break the curse and I would eventually like the main love interest (ok he kinda got me in this book). I was enjoying this one more than the previous two because we got multiple POVs and understood the main characters’ motives more. Yes, I was annoyed that several important characters from the last two were barely mentioned, but I was willing to look past it for a bit, hoping they would come back later. They didn’t. (One did briefly but I’m still miffed). This book did not feel like an ending. It was a romance first and foremost, neglecting the plot.
and in the end Evangeline breaks jacks’s curse with her sheer will/love? I don’t get it. I don’t understand how it can be true love’s magical kiss while jacks is still a fate and no one thought the curse could be broken at all.

I’m assuming the stories aren’t wrapped up because, as the epilogue says, there are more stories to be told in the Magnificent North. I just wish this story felt complete.

This started out better than it ended. The ending sort of fell flat for me and felt so rushed and a bit anti-climactic. Actually, the whole book felt rushed, if I'm being completely honest. I needed more and while I'm excited for another book in the Caraval world, I'm a little disappointed by this one.
