An interesting insight into how the Spice Girls transformed pop in the nineties, and really interesting to see how many people attempted (and still attempt) to dissect it. A quick read.

As someone who grew up in the 90's, and threw herself into Spicemania wholeheartedly, this is a very important book. I want to get my old girl gang back together to support the newer generations, march, scream, shout, and jump about in wildly inappropriate shoes. It's eye opening to realise just how much of me currently is actually down to the Spice Girls. Viva Forever ✌

I listened to this as an audiobook and it was a really fascinating listen on the impact of the Spice Girls and raised some interesting ideas on their legacy and modern feminism.

Lauren Bravo has brilliantly organised this book into a series of essays structured around key elements of the Spice Girls manifesto - feminism, friendship and girl power and looking at the Spice Girls as a girl group, and as social and cultural influencers. A brilliant idea and means you can easily dip in and out of this book by reading a chapter/essay at a time. Bravo clearly loves the Spice Girls and her enthusiasm is a pleasure to read.

This book was a really interesting analysis of the impact the Spice Girls have had on girl power, feminism and what it means to be a woman. I did feel it lacked a lot of critique and was a very biased view, but it was still interesting nonetheless. I have never really been a fan of the Spice Girls, in the way that I love their most famous hits but I don’t really know anything about them, so this was an interesting insight into just how influential they were and I learnt quite a few facts about them. I definitely think the book could have gone further, and delved deeper into the world of feminism but I understand the focus was on the Spice Girls. Overall a good book, but not one I would read again.
