Story was fine, but just a placeholder to get you to the next book. Sort of like how Back to the Future 2 was totally unnecessary to move along to Back to the Future 3, but was decent enough.

I continued this as it is the 2nd book and I wanted to decide if I should finish the series. Although some parts are very ya , with romance , teenage angst etc . I still want to see how the plot ends so I will continue it i think

Danielle Paige did it again. This second book of the series was even more action-packed than the first and ended in a way that made me excited to read the next. I wish there was a LITTLE more character building of the bad guys but I’m still obsessed with this version of Dorothy and the world-building of Oz is excellent. I definitely recommend.

2.5 I didn't hate it – and it kept me somewhat entertained on some long drives… But that said, I can usually immerse myself in the YA lit world – The concept seemed to have a lot of potential… but this one just wasn't for me. I'll leave it to the middle schoolers.

I got to about 40 pages from the end and just couldn’t be bothered to finish. I almost packed it in a few times on this one. The tone and writing was just so much... weaker than the first. (And that is not to say that it was strong in the first.) It felt like it was written by a different person entirely.
It also started to feel like you weren’t getting anywhere. It’s like you kept getting the rising action and skipping the climax and I have no desire to go through another book of it.
I am, admittedly, not the target audience. I wanted to like this alternate Oz story but alas, it was not my thing.
