Colton Freeze returns home to learn that his childhood friend, Melanie Jacoby, is working herself to the bone. Hurt that she did not confide in him or ask for help, Colt is determined to fix her problems - even if it means pushing the boundaries of their friendship and turning it into something deeper.

Series note:This is book #3 in the series. While the plot is standalone, there is ongoing character development for the entire Lodge/Freeze clan.

Friends-to-lovers romances are tricky. It is often difficult to portray the shift in dynamics and translate the closeness of friendship into sexual attraction and emotional intimacy. Despite a rocky start, Zanetti manages to pull it off by the end.

Melanie and Colt are both strong and independent people, and the change in their relationship is awkward at first. That said, they are always open and honest with one another, so there are no silly misunderstandings or issues resulting from a lack of communication. Their chemistry is solid if not as intense as Jake and Sophie in book #1.

Mel is an appealing mix of strength and vulnerability, but her tendency to give into Colt's domineering personality is annoying at times. One smile as he turns on the charm, and she forgets her legitimate gripes.

As with the first two books, the small-town antics and the relationship between the Lodge/Freeze family members are wonderful. Colt and Hawk's shenanigans are a riot and Colt's conversation with his father, Tom, provides some excellent background regarding his parent's relationship - it would have been even better if more information was provided.

Overall, a fun read if a bit too saccharine, and I have high expectations for the final installment focusing on the youngest sibling and only daughter, Dawn, and the third member of Colt and Mel's posse, Hawk.

Oh no, this was not for me.
Colton was just... so overbearing. He doesn't learn at any point that not only does he not need to plan everything - he *does* need to involve Melanie in the planning of *their* life. I just wanted to punch him through the whole thing.

And the
Spoilerbig proposal at the end? In front of the whole town? Jesus Christ. Public proposals are only okay in situations where you've already discussed marriage and know that it's the plan and know that your partner would revel in the attention and sharing the moment with whoever else is present. It was all just so horribly uncomfortable.

I won't go looking for more from this author.

This book had two of my all-time favorite things: sexy cowboys and a friends to lovers storyline. I loved it! There was actually quite a bit of humor in this book as well. It didn't have a lot of angst or drama and it was a pretty quick read. I love this series and each book has been so good! I'm really hoping Hawk and Dawn will also be getting a story. Highly recommend!

emotional funny lighthearted fast-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? No
  • Loveable characters? Yes
  • Diverse cast of characters? Yes
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

Two best friends trying to resist each other for the sake of their friendship and predictably failing. He's domineering, bossy with a sweet side, and she's independent and spirited. I really liked their friendship + romance, though I wasn't very fond of the how
fertility and ticking biological clock play into the plot
. But they worked well as a couple, I liked their moments together and the sex is hot. It's a sweet and fairly low angst quick read that hits the spot.

This was a quick, sweet read. I'm a sucker for best friends to lovers stories. There was some drama, but nothing annoying. I'm guessing we will be getting at least one more book so I'll forgive the epilogue not being that far in the future.
Nice job.

Full Review posted on Book Lovin' Mamas

Rising Assets is the third book to Rebecca Zanetti’s Montana Maverick’s series, and after reading it, I want to move to Montana.  Well…not literally because my husband has already said no to the idea. (He knows I wouldn’t be able to handle the cold weather anyways during the winter months…LOL…One reason why we moved out of the state of Virginia.)

I give this book 5 full moons and highly recommend it to contemporary romance readers out there.  I’m going to admit and say I didn’t read the first two books in the series, but I didn’t have a hard time following Rising Assets when reading it.  Rebecca does a great job of bringing in the previous characters and giving details on how they met in their books.  Now I need to make time to read the first two books.  I enjoyed being in Montana (fictionally) with Colton and know I will enjoy being there with his other brothers.  =)

Colt's story. Colt, Melanie, & Hawk have been best friends since childhood. Colt is back in town to take over the family business after his year abroad studying finance, Hawk is on a short leave from the military, & Melanie has been working three jobs while they were away and is having fertility issues. She wants her own family and is looking at options for having a baby. The men are unaware because that is the one thing she's never shared. Arguing with Colt on life plans has the two best friends kissing in a moment of anger that turns into a topsy turvy attraction. Colt is fighting it with everything he has. His meddling brothers, sister, parents, Hawk, & town folk all know better. As Colt and Melanie delve deeper into their relationship, tragedy strikes that will make them or break them.

First read: April 2014 (3 stars)
Still not liking the last name Freeze (Freeze? really) but it's a good read. I love the Lodge-Freeze family, as scheming and meddling as they are.

Now can we have Hawk's book please?

Reread: March 2017

For some reason all the books in this series are less enjoyable the second time around so I'm knocking off a star,

but this family is adorable. Hawk and Dawn's book next! Please be good please be good please be good-
