I never re-read comics, but I'm glad I tried Hickman's run again. Almost just as rich and weird as his FF run, which is my favorite modern superhero epic! Excited for the rest of the volumes.

Wow. This issue of Avengers is huge! It’s something like 70 pages, which doesn’t sound like much…but compared to a standard issue it’s more than double. Not that I’m complaining! Naturally there’s a ton that actually happens in this issue. There’s the normal inter-Avengers banter and the like, which is my favorite. A couple of the comments and conversations in this issue are officially my new favorites. I ship the budding relationship that’s occurring, even if I know it’s going to end up going down in flames. Perhaps literally?
There’s also the formation of two new teams (no, I’m not saying who they are) lead by a couple of surprises. We also got to see the more political side to the Avengers. Mostly a reaction to the Avengers though. A lot of fans have been talking about how unhappy the American government would be with T’Challa being in charge…and well let’s just say I was not surprised by the reaction shown.
Namor is still causing trouble. It’s kind of nice seeing him kick up a fuss, truth be told. I feel like it’s been forever since we’ve seen him do much. His team is a lot deadlier than I anticipated though. I know that sounds mean of me to say. I just wasn’t expecting them to be so tough.
Oh! And they may or may not be adding a new teammate or two. That one I’m totally not spoiling for you, but I will say that I squealed like the fangirl I am when I saw it.

This is probably the best Avengers book I've read. I just wished the art was consistent, Kubert also has his art look rushed. This book is a good intro to the new team and what lies ahead.

Meh. It had a few good moments, but on the whole, it barely kept my attention.

The first few issues have been so difficult to follow: too many characters, too confusing a plot. This one finally felt like something I might want to read. (The only reason I am continuing to read it is because I keep forgetting that I want to drop it when my comic shop puts it in my box. So, I may as well read what I have paid for. And maybe that will help me remember which title it is I want to drop!)

Time to play catch up before Marvel goes all topsy-turvy with their big upcoming Secret Wars event.

SUNSPOT!!

This comic has Sunspot in it!

That right there is enough to sell me. I haven't really seen hide nor hair of this guy since waaaaaaay back in the New Mutant days! I am so happy to have him on the team.

Anyways - this is a BIG book. I mean...important things are coming and it's pretty clear that The Avengers is kinda the center of it all.

Hickman is great at BIG. He's also pretty great at BIG and COSMIC.

It's looking like its going to be a fun ride!

Looking forward to getting my superhero on again! :)

The art is so beautiful and the writing made me angsty as fuck. I ship Steve and Tony so much, I even helicarrier it, fucking hell.

Docked a star only because Hickman's story arcs always pay off way down the line, leaving the early issues a little muddled and confusing. Totally going to come back and read this first arc when the end game is finally revealed.

[Insert obligatory I LOVE YOU HICKMAN here]
