Oh my goodness... this book!... I don't even know where or how to begin to describe the awesomeness that is Where There's Smoke! This book had it all: wonderful, relatable characters, heart stopping suspense, blazing romance (sorry, I couldn't help myself), and a super powerful message of faith. I'm extremely eager for book two and highly, highly recommend this to everyone!

Where There's Smoke by Susan May Warren
Really interested in how the smokejumpers fight forest fires especially because they are all over the west coast states.
Starts out with Jed and Kate and something went wrong while on the front lines of the fire in Alaska. They came out with all kinds of scars and meet up again many years later on the same team fighting fires again.
Jed is in control and gives her the job of training others because he knows her father Jock had trained her well. Like mystery surrounding the drone, the commadrie among the jumpers and how they fire the fires.
Handful of characters but easy to keep track of. Bit of romance, travel and it's well rounded book to read.
Lots of religion and praying to help get them through the really bad times...
Other excerpts from other stories in the series are included at the end.
Scary parts also when they are surrounded by the fire-like tips of digging a hole so you can breathe.

I hadn't read a Suzie May Warren book in ages. It's like visiting an old friend. I don't know why I don't do it more often.

The firestorm scenes haunted me for days.

Daughter of town hero and legendary hot shot / smokejumper trainer, Jock Burns, Kate Burns is said to be made of the same stuff as her dad. However, since he didn't want Kate to become a smokejumper, they stopped speaking years before he died while fighting a forest fire.

Needless to say, Kate has some issues to work through due to this. She also needs to overcome her fear of fire so she can prove her rash words to long-time crush, Jed Ransom.

Jed has his own issues to work through. He was left to his uncle's care after his dad gambled everything away and abandoned by his uncle for alcohol. Jed met Jock when Jock saved him from a fire. As soon as he was old enough, Jed showed up on Jock's doorstep to join the hotshots team. A sure fire way to jeopardize that position was to fool around with the boss's daughter.

This sets up a 17 year moth and flame scenario between Jed and Kate. However, both of them need to resolve their issues and learn to trust in the Lord before they will be successful together.

I always enjoy Warren's tales and this one is no different. She has definitely set up future stories while creating an atmosphere of camaraderie between the firefighters. While not joined by blood, as with the Christiansen family, this group of men and women create their own chosen family. I look forward to the remainder of the series.

I picked up this series for a binge read and it was glorious! One thing is clear from the very first line, this series is saturated with intense action and adventure. If the fires and smokejumpers don’t make you sweat, the sizzling romance is sure to heat things up! Clear your calendar for this series, reader friends, because it is nearly impossible to put down!

I borrowed this series through the Kindle Unlimited program. The opinions expressed are my own.

A childhood crush and living up to one man's legend turns two characters inside out as they live with the danger that fighting forest fires entails. Kate must return home after seven years to her father, deceased, and his protégée who wanted little to do with her. With an offset of fire related adventures, Warren paints a picture of the dangers of fighting fire and the reality of panic. Watching characters trapped in fires and unable to save themselves or others turned me inside out. I'll always love that about Warren's writing, the way she connects emotions. Kate was beautifully flawed and stuck true to her personality making her more enjoyable. Overall very enjoyable, yet not my complete favorite of Warren's works.

This was a surprisingly good novel. It's in the genre of Christian fiction but wasn't overly preachy. Some passages seemed to run long and maybe the heroine didn't need to give up her job to please the man she loved (at least that's what it seemed like to me), but the book was still good.
