This is a trope I typically love if well executed, but this author might just not be for me. I DNF a few of her other books and forced myself through a couple others. The inner dialogue she gives her characters is extremely cringe-worthy and amounts to "telling" instead of showing how they are feeling. Telling instead of showing in any capacity is dealbreaker for me. In this case, it made everyone appear immature, naive, and one dimensional. Really pulls me out of the story. I did finish this, but it was painful lol.

It was a sweet Best Friends to Lovers... I had fun reading it, and if given a chance I would read another regency from this author

I loved the first one in the series but only liked this one. Lizzy is in love with her brothers best friend, Oliver, but they are best friends in their own right. Oliver doesn't believe he could ever take care of Lizzy the way she deserves. Lizzy has no idea that Oliver loves her just as she does him. Oliver becomes aware of Lizzys feelings but is too scared to admit his.
Rose is still my favorite character. I love her bluntness and ownership of her own spirit. Elizabeth,Lizzy, is supposed to be this adventurous, free spirit, but spends the entire book mooning over Oliver and why no one can see that she's a woman now. It becomes repetitive & a bit annoying. I wish she had leaned more into the adventurous side of her. She just comes across as whiney. Oliver doesn't bother me but I don't like him as much as I did in the first book. This one was just ok for me.

Bad.

It's surprising how much I ended up hating the book when it was actually kinda fun around the beginning.

1. I loathe this type of hero. "I can't have you but oh no someone else is interested let me send a bunch of mixed signals!!!"
2. The hero was only able to be this way bc the heroine made it possible for him. The line between pining and pathetic is thin (in romance novels) but she was very firmly in the latter category (especially at the end).
3. The conflict is SO contrived. "We're best friends who've always loved and supported each other but oh no my father said his blood runs through my veins so of course I will do a 180 as soon as we're married and become abusive therefore we cannot marry!!!!!"
