**I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.**

I am a fan of Garrett Leigh but Cash just missed the mark for me. Cash's storyline revolves around fox hunting in the UK and the saboteur. I usually love a good suspense but this one just wasn't for me.
As much as I liked Cash and Rae. The chemistry was there but for me it got lost within the fox hunt.
The story seemed to have the romance/relationship inserted into the fox hunt and it wasn't the focal point.

Garrett Leigh is a great author but Cash just wasn't for me.

Wow this book surprised me in so many ways! As a vegetarian and life long animal lover, it kind of hurt (in a good way because Cash and Rae are making me proud). However, it was super sad. Overall, I couldn't put it down! Cash is kind, but elusive. He has trauma and it still affects all his relationships. Rae is fiesty and firey and sweet. I love that these two get a second chance, yet it's so affected by Cash's past. I get the back and forth. I also enjoy their shared love for animals. Oh and I love Dom so much more in this book than in his own. That was fun to see him and Lucky again. They're good people and it shows even more in this book.

Notes: 2/5 spice levels, second chance, hook up to lovers, activists, mechanic/journalist, vegetarians, past relationship trauma

A sab (foxhunt saboteur) and a former sab who was run off due to a betrayal try to figure out how to navigate a relationship while avoiding the fox in the room and then when they are both back in the sab life. It was a fascinating story with the bit learning about fox hunting. It was great to see a complicated relationship not because of drugs or abuse like is common with this author.

Sad, frustrating, and baffling to learn more about fox hunting.

Activism is usually something I can identify with strongly, however, I never before realised how fox hunt saboteurs actually sabotaged the hunts. The vandalism I have no issue with, but the level of physical danger they put themselves in trying to break up each hunt, was surprisingly a struggle for me. Perhaps it was just the seeming hopelessness of the situation, not sure, but it certainly made me think.

As the story progressed I was consistently curious as to how the book was going to end, how the author could possibly pull them out of that lifestyle without it seeming like they were going back on a lot of their previous statements, but it came together ok at the last.

Liked both MCs, Rae more so than Cash, and still love Lucky and Dom. An interesting read.

**I received a digital arc for an honest review**

Cash by Garrett Leigh is the second in the Lucky series and follows the story of Lucky’s housemate Cash as he navigates meeting Rae, a man who thrusts the past he left behind back into his present. Cash is a quiet man who lives a relatively solitary life with Lucky and Dom. Rae finds himself having a one night encounter with Cash not realizing that Cash is a legend among the sabbing community he is a part of. Cash left the sabbing life behind after being betrayed so he struggles to come to grips with the lure of saving foxes and having a relationship with Rae. Rae’s entire life is sabbing so when Cash fails to balance the lifestyle with their blossoming relationship things become dangerous and the men are left to decide if they can be together and still save the animals?

Cash is a complicated man. He wears his past so heavily around his neck that it leads to him living a reserved life. Lucky and Dom have managed to break down his walls but no one steps in and impacts him as much as Rae. Their immediate connection is evident in the chemistry they have between the sheets but also in their shared passion for animal activism. Cash allows his past to get between him and Rae time and time again leading to him hurting a man who just wants to love him.

“Everything cut deep - every glance and touch, every moment we’d spent together.”

Rae is a passionate animal activist who refuses to give up even though he and his crew are fighting a losing battle. He sees a brightness in Cash that few others can see and wants so much to share in sabbing as well as everything else. Cash’s repeated push back and resistance to their relationship cuts Rae deeply and even if he doesn’t want to, he keeps letting him back in. When the sabbing violence hits close to the couple Rae is forced to come to terms with the fact that Cash has to be the most important thing and that there are other ways to help his crew without putting himself and Cash in danger.

“We fit together so perfectly I almost laughed. Almost, because there was nothing funny about how kissing him made my heart jump and my skin tingle. About how the haze fast descending over my mind. Coherent thought abandoned me, and for as long as his lips were on mine, there was nothing else.”

This story was hard to read at times with the MCs struggling to find a way to balance the importance of each other with the importance of their cause. I’m not going to lie, hunt sabotaging aka “sabbing” is not something I’ve ever heard of. It’s interesting when a story introduces you to something completely new and this book did that for me. I appreciated it being told through character experiences rather feeling like I was being lectured about it. When activism is discussed it can begin to feel preachy and I did not get that at all with this story instead I was heartbroken for the animals (both foxes being hunted and the horses and hounds being forced to participate).

4 stars for this unique romance where the characters' passion for their cause ignited a passion for each other.

The book is better that 3 stars, but it's not a book for me, I couldn't connect with Cash or Rae, I didn't get their lives. They are 2 nice guys but it's all that they were to me.

A rollercoaster of emotion, adrenaline and trust!

This was the first story I’ve read by Garrett Leigh and oh my word I’m now a fan!! This book was so easy to read and just flowed off the page as the drama unfurled.

This story follows current fox hunting saboteur (or ‘sab’), Rae and former sab and current mechanic Cash. A chance encounter at a bar sparks “lust at first” sight and they think this encounter is a one-off but their worlds collide when Rae’s current crew seeks Cash’s help with the hunters they are trying to stop. Adrenaline, danger and emotions get all tangled up, as Cash’s past comes back to collide with his present. With emotions heightened and various dangers at every turn, communication seems to be a problem for these two. Thankfully with the help of their friends (got to love Lucky and Dom!!) they are able to win out and be together.

While I knew nothing about animal hunting of any sort this story was so engaging and such a page-turner, I was enthralled from the beginning. I loved the British language and humour and look forward to reading many more stories by Garrett!! A highly recommend read!!

Extra note: I LOVE it when a cover totally looks like the character. Wonderful cover design, perfectly matched!!!

5 stars - THIS BOOK! 💚 Where do I even begin?! It’s no secret that Garrett Leigh is one of my favourite authors, and this book showcases everything that is so great about her work. She hits gold every time, and Cash is absolutely no exception.

This book has all the ingredients of the perfect novel - two passionate and wonderfully written main characters fighting the good fight, lots of emotion, lots of action, a good dash of angst, super hot chemistry between the main characters, and really just some quality storytelling. All in all, you’ve got one hell of a book!!

Lucky is one of my favourite novels by Garrett, and although this is technically a follow up to that, you are definitely able to read this one as a standalone novel. Since I was such a huge Lucky fan, I was over the moon to see plenty more of Lucky and Dom here. Although they are clearly not the main characters they do have huge roles here, as Lucky is Cash’s housemate and all three of them are very close friends. Seeing Dom and Lucky again was delightful (I had so not been ready to let them go at the end of Lucky!) but learning more about Cash was even better. Cash had a pretty small role in Lucky’s book, but even then I had been intrigued by his story. We learnt very little about him before and so getting to know him in his very own book was a joy, even if it was a little heartbreaking in places too because of the hurt from his past. He’s such a genuine guy that you just want to see him happy from the very first moment, and I didn’t want to put this book down until he got the love that he deserved.

I don’t even know where to begin with Rae because as much as I loved Cash, I think my heart beat for Rae. He was a wonderful character and from the moment we meet him I was rooting for him, wanting to know all about him and what led him to the life of sabbing. He was passionate, caring and so clever. His past wasn’t too angsty (no huge parental dramas or true heartbreak), he was just this super passionate and kind person who wanted to protect wildlife and animals and he had a wonderful moral compass that I think many could aspire to. He was perfect for Cash, even if it took a while for them to really get there and accept what they needed from each other. Together, their passion and goodness was just so wonderful.

One thing that I do want to say is that some people may (or maybe not, I don’t know) let the subject of hunting put them off. I know the last thing I want to read about is the cruelty of hunting and the atrocities that occur to these foxes. But let me tell you, this book is not preachy and it is not graphic in any way. No real harm is explicitly on the pages. No horrible or upsetting images are described. Yes, the subject material itself can be upsetting and shocking, but no acts of violence to animals was described. Just the love and passion that Cash and Rae and the others in their group had to keeping these animals safe.

I cannot praise this book highly enough. I genuinely don’t think Garrett’s work gets any better than this, and from her back catalogue of incredible 5-star reads, that really is saying something.

Read this book! You will not regret it!
