Garrett Leigh is the queen of yummy, angsty, MM romance and I have been binge reading her back catalog. Cash is a little bit lighter on the character angst, but a story that will pull you in that has characters you will equally love. Even though it wasn’t my favorite story from her impressive backlist, this story was a sweet one where the past meets the present and you want the characters to work it out so they can be together.
Cash is a car mechanic who has hidden his past deeply. He meets Rae one explosive night and they share a night of passion. When they next meet, it’s because Rae brings the past knocking on Cash’s door. His hunt saboteur crew needs help, and Cash is a legend among them. But Cash hides deep scars from his past and isn’t willing to jump back into the life. As things heat up both in the hunting community and also between the guys, things quickly become even more dangerous as enemies attack them from both sides.
I LOVED the fast paced ending of this story. It went in a direction I totally didn’t see coming and before I knew it, the story was wrapping up. For me, it lacked the same angsty intensity that many of her other titles have that creates drama and tension between the characters. In Cash, the angst is created more from Cash’s internal conflict about sabotaging and also from external forces which drive the story forward. Don’t get me wrong, this is a great book. I really enjoyed it, but I missed that little extra angst that I love in Garrett’s stories. Learning about illegal fox hunting in the UK was fascinating and sad, but the justice in the end makes it all worthwhile. I also think that I enjoyed Lucky (book 1) so much, it was a hard act to follow. The books in this series are quick reads for me and interesting stories to enjoy. I have already started book 3, Jude and look forward to what his story reveals.

I think the reason I couldn't fully enjoy this was because of the narrator was really great as one of the mc's but having the same narrator for both meant it was very hard to differentiate the characters. I couldn't get invested in the characters and there mindsets until 60% of the way through the book and I think if there'd been two narrators, that could've happened sooner.
I had absolutely no idea that hunt saboteur was a thing so from that perspective, to see a little bit about something I had never heard of, even if this is fictionalized, was neat. Some of the word choices were notable in a bad way for me. The author used "cub" instead of "kit" for baby fox and that was weird. Also I know "fag" is a slang for cigarettes in the uk so it makes sense for these characters to say but its so jarring and creates instinctive discomfort to hear it.
Beyond that, the descriptions were just a little clunky and awkward as if they were a first draft or not actually written for the context of the scene. The Lucky/Cash friendship because that was one of the highlights for the book for me. It's often difficult to find books that show platonic male relationships with any sort of physical or verbal affection and I appreciated that this one just had their relationship as part of the story rather than a plot point. I would read an entire book just about them developing their friendship and becoming closer.
Once I got to about 60% of the way through the book the actual hunt plotline became really compelling. I really liked the slight mystery aspect that was introduced because it wasn't overblown but it was still intriguing enough that my heart was racing at multiple points throughout the last 40%.

I read this as part of the box set with Lucky and Jude. Cash is the second of the trilogy.
In brief: Cash is a mechanic, he's introduced in Lucky as Lucky's workmate and eventual landlord. When he meets Rae in a pub in London, it's one of the hottest nights of his life and they both think that's it, only for them to come together as Rae is living the life that Cash walked away from and tried to put behind him.
First off, I don't know too much about the hunt saboteur life but I have no reason to doubt the veracity of the author's research. I don't agree with fox hunting and the lengths the hunters go to just to hunt and kill innocent animals. Not going into it further than that. This is more about Cash and Rae and the life Rae is living, and Cash has lived.
I didn't feel as connected to Cash and Rae as I did to Lucky and Dom but it's still a good story and I felt the chemistry between them and rooted for them to get their HEA. I loved that Rae was so staunch in his beliefs and willing to stand up for what he believed in, and Cash was too even though he'd left that life behind and tried to start over. They were a good fit together and I liked reading their story and sharing in it.

This book was intense and clearly very personal to the author, and I enjoyed reading it very much.

I definitely would have never picked up a book about this subject without the context of a romance written by one of my favorite authors. I was so pulled in by this story, though, and I liked it a lot. Cash and Rae were such interesting characters, and the drama in this book along with their spark made it something I couldn't put down. I loved seeing Dom and Lucky again, too. Even a little bit of Isha to round it all out. This story was really instense and captivating, and so so different from most HEA romances I've read, but it was just as satisfying.
Graphic: Animal cruelty, Confinement, Sexual content, Blood, and Injury/Injury detail

I've labelled this as "dark" because of the illegal fox hunting theme. While there is no on-page harm to a fox I still find the theme intense and dark.

Nothing bad but not my favorite from Garrett Leigh. Rae is an animal rights activist working to stop a local group from illegaly hunting foxes. Cash is a mechanic that has a history with that cause. The plot around trying to stop the fox hunts took a big part of the story and I wasn't invested in the couple. They don't spend much time together and I didn't understand why they would be in love and belong together at that point. I loved the cameos by Dom and Lucky.
It's connected to book 1 because Lucky and Cash are friends and roommates. (and it's mentionned that Cash know Rhys from Believe)
