I started this book at 10:30pm and ended it 2hrs later with tears streaming down my cheeks.
Anyone who has lost someone should read this, but be prepared to be emotional turmoil

Wow. Ripped my heart out but...in the best, most achingly way possible.

Well that emotionally destroyed me.
Ok, now that I have gathered myself and its not 1am I can write a slightly better review.
Aside from the fact this book left me a wreck, it was absolutely brilliant. I couldn't put it down. I started it late, at like 10p and finished about 1230a. I didn't even read the synopsis before picking this up. From the first page, I was hooked. The tone of the story was so dark and the writing was so compelling with a slightly menacing undertone. Connor's pain is so raw and his anger is so real. This story just tears at your heart and shows you the truth about painful situations we face in life, "Your mind will believe comforting lies while also knowing the painful truths that make those lies necessary." This book is such a heavy dose of reality delivered in a beautiful dark gothic fantasy style. I loved. every. single. torturous. minuet. of. it.
Update: Reread
Still destroys me. ðŸ˜

At first, I thought this book would be creepy with a touch of sad. Boy was I wrong. It's been a while since I've cried while reading, but this book hits you so hard with the feels. The story was so beautiful and tragic and wonderfully written. Just, read this book.

A heartbreaking story of illness and the way grief manifests both on the inside and the outside.

One of the most beautifully heart breaking books I’ve ever read disguised as a horror novel. What begins as horror/suspense in a fantastical way begins to run parallel with a very real and tangible suspense of a different kind. The parable Conor’s monster comes to teach is one we could all use at some point in our lives and the very real human moments throughout only drive home the weight of the books ending.
