I do love a fake boyfriend trope and this one didn’t disappoint!

The fake boyfriend trope is not easy. How do you convince the reader this is a probable situation? Some authors pull it off, while others seduce their readers to allow some fantasy in an otherwise realistic story.

In this case, I enjoyed the beginning but when they started discussing marriage there was so much unclear, glossed over, left open, ignored, or waved away, I could not take it any longer.

Pity, because I really enjoyed the narration.

3⭐️ Hilariously Disastrous!

The Husband Hoax was quite an interesting read. I feel the side characters (especially Elle) are what made this book!

Christian is an absolute disaster but he makes it work. His dynamic with the other Bertha Boys was super cute! I loved that they were always there for Christian when his klutzy self screwed something up, which is a constant for him. I didn’t quite understand his attachment to his family and his intense desire to prove to impress them, however.

Émile has the opposite problem and wants to escape his family desperately, hence why he needs Christian to be his fake husband in order to get his inheritance so he can cut ties with the family for good. I think Émile was a little naive in trusting Christian so quickly. I would have liked to see Émile’s trust grow rather than him just having a feeling that Christian was a good guy.

Unfortunately, I liked the humor and banter of the side characters more than I did the couple. I felt that they fell a little too fast… I would have liked if their relationship had more time to grow before they decided they were all in, but every story is different and I can understand why it was written this way!

yeah... no.
on all fronts, no.
To me, Saxon James is the Anna Hackett of MM romance.
Everything is so tropey and formulaic... like a hallmark movie and I need a very specific mood for such corniness.

So sweet, and lovely

Contains: wedding of convenience, stranger, rich/kinda poor(disown), bad shenanigans of a rich family/drama and the best CHOSEN FAMILY

This book touches all our feelings. Drama, homophobic parent, bad family. extraordinary friends. Chosen family. You may cry, you may laugh, you have to be hopefully. Hea guaranteed.

Èmile and Christian's story was surprising, messy, and absolutely adorable. I had my doubts about whether the two of them would be compatible at first, but boy did they prove me wrong. Èmile's family was part of the insanely rich 0.0001% that I find completely unrelatable, but Èmile himself was much more down to earth. I don't know many people who would see a stranger struggling and offer themselves up to make things better, but that's exactly what kickstarted Christian and Èmile's whirlwind husband hoax. Christian was such a nervous, klutzy guy, and when his fake date canceled on him at the last minute my heart immediately went out to him. Thank goodness it was Èmile who stepped out to find him freaking out, because he ended up being exactly what was needed to give Christian the confidence boost to keep going. The family wedding turned into one disaster after another, but that didn't stop Christian and Èmile from taking their spark into the bedroom for a night of fun. I think that very next morning was when I got hooked on the idea of them together, and the rest of their story was an entertaining and unexpected series of events leading up to their sweet, surprise wedding. I loved the themes of found family in this book--especially the Bertha household and all their close bonds--and when so many of Christian and Èmile's bio family members were pieces of garbage, it really helped to have that loving support network there to keep them going. Èmile himself also had some pretty important realizations about forging his own path regardless of the traditions that his family had put in place, and I enjoyed seeing him grow into a happier, more authentic version of himself around Christian. Though the two of them agreed to marry for business reasons, it didn't take long to see that they were developing very real feelings for each other, and I was here for it. I was downright gleeful when they conveniently forgot about not hooking up because it might interfere with their hoax, and if I ever had doubts about their feelings, they all went away when Christian and Èmile fought for each other every time their families tried to throw a wrench in their plans. The cherry on top was their delightfully un-traditional, spontaneous wedding, complete with all the lovable members of the Bertha house that I'm hoping will get their own stories over time.

**I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.

Have I just found a new favourite Saxon James book??

I listened to the audiobook for this, and the narrators did such a fantastic job. They really blew me away, and I have to give them a lot of credit for how much I enjoyed this book.

I've been struggling with reading Saxon James books lately because all of her stories are connected with each other and it feels like at this point you have to read 20+ books (all of her books PLUS all of Eden Finley's stuff) to feel like you're getting the whole picture. So it was really refreshing to pick this one up and have a cast of whole-new characters -- so much so that I'm kind of bummed this one's the start of yet another series.

That said, this was really entertaining. I really liked both main characters and their supporting cast of Christian's roommates and Emile's sister. I also really love celebrity fake dating stories and this did that really well.

If you like Husband Material I think you'd really enjoy this.

This is a really cute and quick read.
I loved Christian and Emile, they were really cute together and I appreciated that there was no miscommunication trope. In fact, their great communication and chemistry was one of the best things about this book.
Apart from that, however, the story takes a turn and tries to create conflicts that really don’t need to happen. I mean, I would be totally content reading a book with subtle conflict and tension. But don’t make a “huge” conflict happen that is not only predictable and cliche, just for it to be resolved in the next chapter.
For this reason, the book was okay-good ish. It’s hella forgettable, fortunately enough, the roommates are so fun and I really can’t wait to see their stories since I already have a feel for their traits.
