Many were the tears shed by them in their last adieus to a place so much beloved. "Dear, dear Norland!" said Marianne, as she wandered alone before the house, on the last evening of their being there; "when shall I cease to regret you!—when learn to feel a home elsewhere!—Oh! happy house, could you know what I suffer in now viewing you from this spot, from whence perhaps I may view you no more!—And you, ye well-known trees!—but you will continue the same.—No lea nof will decay because we are removed, nor any branch become motionless although we can observe you no longer!—No; you will continue the same; unconscious of the pleasure or the regret you occasion, and insensible of any change in those who walk under your shade!—But who will remain to enjoy you?"

Simplest of Austen’s books, still wonderful.

I am a bit surprised that this was her first novel, however, this is more telling a story than story telling. While I liked Elinor - we do not get to know her as we do Elizabeth Bennett, and I could not stand Marianne thoughout most of the book. I never got the attachment to the main characters. Elizabeth I cannot help but love, but Elinor is that person you know you should like, but just don't mingle with very much. I wanted my heart to break as it did with Anne Elliot, but Elinor was so cold and proper and Marianne just falls in love way too quickly to really feel sorry for them. The story is good and I should see the movie again - it has been quite awhile. I probably would have liked it more if I didn't have such high expectations from Pride and Prejudice or Persuasion.

My third Jane Austen! I just love her world. While there was a very brief period of tediousness in the middle of this one, I was still extremely invested in the fates Elinor and Marianne. Elinor was my favourite in this one - the level-headed, sensible and extremely caring character that Austen writes so well.

This is my favorite Jane Austen book. Marianne is definitely my favorite of the two sisters. The ending is adorable.
Spoiler I didn't ship Marriane and Colonel Brandon until the end, but I am totally on board now
Worth the read
