solid, lovely, happy. i really like the 'small town, unassuming dude meets successful boss bitch doctor' trope, though had a few issues with some plot points (why does SHE have to give up everything and move [even if her family does suck and isn't supportive]). unpopular opinion - i liked 'Just for the Summer' better, though maybe that's just because it was my first AJ?!

ohmygod this book was incredible. it felt like a fusion of Ashley Poston and Emily Henry's writing styles with its inclusion of magical elements and its focus on platonic/familial relationships.

this was my first read of Jimenez's and I really only picked it up because I want to read the third book in this series, but this HOOKED ME IN. I read half of this book in the first sitting--it was so engaging and something about the writing style made it really digestible and quick. I was also so impressed by Jimenez's ability to create a focus on real life issues (access to healthcare in remote communities, e.g.) while still illustrating a beautiful love story. I grew such an attachment to these characters, and I was rooting for them so bad; this is exactly what I want my romance books to make me feel.

the only reason I had to knock this read's rating down was because it included domestic abuse (both emotional and physical). I think it was a great respectful representation, and while it's on me to read the CWs, I missed them, and I don't think I was in the right headspace to be reading about it.

all that being said: I will be comin back to this series bc this book truly was sooooo good!!

It was a bit of rocky start. I did not like the main couple as individuals, especially Daniel. I listened to the audiobook and Daniel’s narrator would take these deep breaths that  made him sound bored. It was very distracting. Daniel as a character annoyed me at first because he displayed one my ultimate pet peeves: constantly talking about how “someone like that” could never like you. It to me doesn’t consider them enough as individuals and doesn’t react to how they’ve actually acted towards you.

After I got used to the male narrator and Daniel stood up, the story got really good. I think the discussions on DV were well done, Daniel and Alexis’ relationship was sweet, the spice was just enough, and the side characters did what they needed to do. All in all, I really enjoyed this.

Abby Jimenez is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. Her characters are lovable with an emotional depth that can be a challenge to write. Jimenez does it well! She also puts the reader in the setting along with the characters. Such a fun read! Glad to know it's the first in a short series of books.
