I had not heard of this book until the movie was supposed to show up in theatres. The book was actually really good. There were some parts of the book that were a little confusing but I figured it out. This book is set in Ireland mainly on Fowl Manor. Artemis is a twelve year old boy who is on a mission to steal fairy gold. Artemis is a genius and has the help of his bodyguard Butler, and Butler's little sister Juliet. Artemis kidnaps a fairy and time stops while her kind try to save her.

I did enjoy this book. It seems that so much was put into it. Artemis was always one step ahead of everything and he kept his secrets to himself, not even the readers knew what was going to happen. I love the fantasy genre so this book was right up my alley. I will have to read the other books in the series. I would definitely recommend this book to any 9-11 year old children, but especially boys. I think this could be a good book that boys would enjoy. There were a few graphic parts of the book that mentioned blood, but I think children can handle it. There was diversity with the humans and different beings of "the People" or the fairy world.

I did end up watching the movie after I read the book and I am very disappointed. Of course, things always need to be left out of books that become movies. Artemis Fowl the movie just took out so many things it was hard for me to watch. It was nothing like the first book, maybe there was something in the movie from the other books in the series. First difference right away was that Artemis's mother is dead and his father is at home with him sometimes. In the book, Artemis's father had disappeared and Artemis's mother is ill. Artemis's whole mission in the book is to steal fairy gold, while in the movie his whole mission is to save his father. Holly Short in the book has to do a ritual to get her magic replenished and that is when Artemis kidnaps her. In the movie, Holly is trying to clear her father's name and that is when Artemis kidnaps her. All in all I loved the book, not so much the movie. I think that younger children would like the movie though.

I read this in maybe third or fourth grade, and it was pretty confusing so maybe this is one of the few children’s/middle grade books I’ll revisit.

Artemis Fowl is one of the best book series ever and it never gets boring! I started reading it when I was 10/11 i think and it build my character and my imagination growing up.
Recently I gave it a reread (listened to to be precise and Rufus Beck (German) is the best) and I still loved it.
These characters are just so creative and authentic. What I also love about this series is that it's not cliché. Like how it' not about a lovestory but love for your family. Like the elfs aren't necessarily tall and pretty. Like Artemis evolves from cold criminal mastermind to loyal and brave friend.
Oh and by the way this is so much fun. I don't often laugh out loud while reading but this makes me just burst into laughter sometimes.
