Possibly among the most realistic and universally relatable of the BSC novels. The girls' near-friendship-ending blowup and Mary Anne's struggle to convince her father to relax his strict rules both feel authentic. We also meet Dawn for the first time (although she doesn't really have a personality yet), and Mary Anne and Dawn engineer the re-meet-cute of their formerly-in-love parents.

Of course there is plenty of wow-the-80's-were-different material, e.g. a drop-off party for a bunch of 4-year-olds, chaperoned mostly by 12-year-olds. There's also a clear recent-edition-insertion: when a child Mary Anne is caring for develops a high fever, she calls each of the parents' cell phones (as well as a few other adults') before dialing 911 - the idea that all these adults would turn their phones off when a 12-year-old is caring for a 3-year-old being, apparently, slightly less implausible than the original text in which nobody had cell phones yet. These are innocent, entertaining little foibles, spoiling nothing about this great entry in the series.

When the baby sitters club has a huge fight it is up to Mary Anne to save the day. Can she do it all on her own?

I really like how fun this book is. I love the idea of a baby sitter's club, but I do have one critiscism.
Every time Mary Anne stands up for herself, she's always like, "Oh no! I was too mean!"
Like, girl!! No!! You!! Weren't!!
Especially in the beginning-- like come on girl!! You weren't in the wrong!
But, then again, that does sound like a thought twelve year old me would have? It even sounds like a thought I would have today, to be honest, because I'm so shy. (I'm a hypocrite q-q) I have to admit Mary Anne is my favorite character in this book, because her personality is so similar to mine, and I also love how she goes against that trope of "shy/ sensitive/ emotional character lets EVERYONE walk all over them" she doesn't do that and it's so refreshing! She stands up for herself and calls out the bull! It makes me want to read the actual series now, and makes me regret not ever picking it up (It never interested me, to be honest, and I remember seeing it during that time in my life where I hated everything "girly" I'm over that phase now, thankfully. Also, ngl, a lot of the covers of the books I saw looked hella tacky-- and I think that was the main factor on why I didn't read it x'D)
Anyway, I love how she grows within this book, and makes a new friend, and by the end of this book, the friendships the group has are stronger now. Which is just-- yes. I love books and any media that portrays good, realistic female friendships!! It's so rare! But when I find a good one, I find a good one and stick with it! I'm already rereading it.
I also love how realistically the kids act in this book, they're 12, after all, and don't act all that sensible, and while it may be confusing to me as a grown adult, I realize for a kid, because their brains aren't fully developed, and they don't have as much experience, and also don't know how to handle their emotions, that said emotions can be overwhelming sometimes. I love how this wasn't sugarcoated, and was honestly really relatable. I can't wait to read more from this series-- I might stick with the graphic novels? Not sure, but I want more!! I love Mary Anne!! Pick up this book, it's so good!

RATING: 4 STARS
(Review Not on Blog)

As a kid I LOVED the Baby-Sitters Club and would often spend hours scouring the library for the next title. Honestly, I probably read the series longer than I should have (reading level-wise), but it always felt like visiting friends. While I have never wanted to be a babysitter, I loved the club idea. As a bossy creative kid this was right up my alley. The friendships in this book was something I had always wanted. This was a series I grew up with and was my favourite for a long time. Confession time, I may have had a bit of a crush on Logan.

I was working at the library and saw that this graphic novel come in while I checked material in. I was excited to see that Baby-Sitters Club was being introduced to another generation. I thumbed through the book and saw this was the same story with a few updates. While usually I am not a fan of updating original stories (as it gives us the time and place when something was first written), I was okay with this series being updated. Moving this novelized book into a graphic novel made it easier to accept new changes.

I would definitely recommend this one to those who once enjoyed reading BSC in the past. This is also great read for young girls between 9-12.

I enjoyed seeing Mary Anne build her strength and confidence in this book. The one thing I liked about this series is that it is realistic, even when it seems a bit like Leave it to Beaver.

Great book! One of my favorites from the series. Mary Anne is one of favorite characters, and this one is all about her! She finally takes a stand, and lots of responsibility............
