This reads like a YA fantasy, it has predictable plot points and the character voices are young. Although it has been published as adult no idea why. I still enjoyed reading it. I feel like the magic system is interesting, the world is great although both parts could have been more detailed. It feels like everything is very black or white in their decisions or their betrayals there is no room for gray which is disappointing as having some morally grey moments could have really elevated this. I liked the characters but feel they could have been developed more, Demi our MC is in a love triangle and she openly toys with both of them, which is pretty crappy but made her more interesting and I would have loved to see more of that side of her. I think it was too easy to predict what was gonna happen but if you just ignore that its a good read.

Forged by Blood is a fast-paced and enchanting debut high fantasy from Ehigbor Okosun. Démi is a captivating lead character and there is a lot to love in this epic tale. High stakes and diverse characters elevate the novel and make you really care about the book's outcome. I found myself burning through the novel.

While I did wholeheartedly enjoy the book, I have a hard time giving it a higher rating. The magic system was somewhat all over the place and made the world feel a little bit undefined. Some convoluted connections and rushed plotlines also added to the slightly unpolished feel in the book.

I was so happy to win an ARC of Forged by Blood in a Goodreads Giveaway!

Overall: a delightful work of high fantasy great for a wide variety of readers. 3.5 stars

Firstly a huge thank you to netgalley and the publishers for granting me an arc! I truly appreciate it.

So I got pretty lucky with this one. I started my arc read of Forged by Blood and was pleasantly surprised when I also received a physical copy of the book from my Fairyloot subscription box (the book is gorgeous!)

I'd like to give a personal thank you to Ehighbor for translating the Yoruba language. Having to translate dialogue yourself is fine, but it distracts from the story and you lose the immersiveness, at least for me.

The characters were wonderful. I adored Dèmi and Jonas. Colin was a little annoying in the way he constantly kept trying to get close to Dèmi. I know the two were close anyway but he was a bit... much.

As for side characters I absolutely loved Will and Nana and I would hands down read their story.

Ehighbor did a wonderful job at worldbuilding and bringing her story to life.
