An intense personal drama which takes place over the course of one weekend. This story follows Wallace, an introverted biochemistry postgrad as he deals with the failure of his experiment, the death of his father and a new relationship with his ‘straight’ friend Miller.
These factors all intersect and cause Wallace to question why he is undertaking a degree he seemingly hates and keeping the people he cares about at arms length.
This is a story about how past scars impact our day to day lives and the intersection of race, sexuality and trauma.
A close read, thrumming with tension and undiscovered desires, as well as a manual for life.

The writing is so very, very good, honest, poignant - I was totally absorbed in the book for the entirety of the short amount of time that it took me to read it. And the way Taylor writes about whiteness is so damning and devastating. I think the highlight of the novel, for me, was the part about beauty and bodies in physical space.
