I enjoyed this one more than vol III, but I didn't fully love it. Even though a lot happened in this volume, it felt very sloggy to me and repetitive at times (mainly in the beginning). The additional characters we are introduced to didn't add anything to the story and seemed pointless as they were very similar to other characters. As with the other books, it did end in a way that left me intrigued enough to pick up the next one.

Probably my favorite volume so far. Very action packed and eventful. Light is getting creepier and creepier as things process and the introduction of new characters has me fascinated. Picking up volume 5 immediately.

DNF at page 180.

The charm of the first volume of Death Note was in the back and forth of Light and L. As the series goes on, it becomes increasingly convoluted, excessively complicated, and with the death of L the charm has come to an end. I don't have any interest in continuing the saga with Near and Mello.
