“To realize one’s Personal Legend is a person’s only real obligation… and when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you achieve it.”

The Alchemist is a story that is dazzling in its powerful simplicity and soul-stirring wisdom and tells the tale of a shepard boy named Santiago, who travels from his homeland in Spain to the Egyptian desert in search of a treasure buried near the Pyramids. Along the way he meets a cast of characters (a Gypsy, an old king, and an alchemist), all of whom help point Santiago in the direction of his quest. But what starts as a journey to find worldly goods turns into a discovery of the treasure found within when one chases their “Personal Legend.”

This book may not be for everyone, especially if you aren’t a fan of cheesy “inspirational poster” messaging, but it truly is one everyone should read at least once. The Alchemist is more than a short story about a boy’s search for treasure, it’s about connecting to God and the universe to search for, and follow, your own deeper purpose in life.

so simple yet profound. ive been feeling a little depressed & dreamless & i think reading this book at the time i did truly moved me. i know people either love or hate this book and i find myself in the former category. the beginning is a little boring, but once you get to part two of the book, it picks up. it reads a bit like the bible, which atp it did kind of lose a bit of its magic to me, especially when god and religion were points that were being driven here (religious trauma LOL). i think i'll keep it to the universe. definitely a book worth reading especially if you're in a slump. this book felt like what i would imagine a father's firm but warm life lesson talks would be.

This book was an interesting kind of parable. it has plenty of moments that will stick with me for a while. i enjoyed how the author captures different point of view and didn’t let the story get so big that it couldn’t maneuver itself. the theme was really captivating.

An adventurous story of a boy searching to complete his personal legend. At times I grew bored as a reader, as most of the characters were flat, as you don’t learn much about the mc, or interact with any others until later in the book.
