i think this story found me at the right time. it has been on my physical tbr for a few weeks now, but i kept pushing it off, too worried it would put me in a bad place. and yet, i finally chose to read it now, at 4:00a.m right when i was already feeling jumpy and crippled by anxiety, unable to sleep for the life of me. from the first few pages i felt compressed from within, and it very smoothly got worse as the story progressed, until the final gut punch, and the unending tears. painful. real. soothing. grief in itself is so foreign to me and yet my worries about the grief my own suicide may provoke, —the need for explanations, the fear of abandonment, the shame of failing to save one we love,— always kept me from going through with it. also, reading the artist interview presented afterwards was a powerful insight into her creative process writing this tale on loss and codependency.

+ Yiska : this one was meh. won’t rate it as i only read it to fully finish the manga.

I feel like it had more potential. I liked the concept but it wasn’t really fleshed out enough.

This book is absolutely heartbreaking. I saw this in the cling wrap at a bookstore and got curious so I borrowed it from my library. I read it in one sitting. However I had to pause a few times and just stare a the wall and process what I read.

I'm so glad that Shiino was able to get Mariko from her family and take her on the trip she did. It was a genuinely touching story that had me tearing up multiple times.

I would definitely check the trigger warnings on this book (It's sold in cling wrap for a reason). But it is a touching story about loving and caring for a friend that has passed away.
