This is the sadest book...No, the sadest work of fiction that I ever consumed. I loved it

Stupid book, stupid tears that I can't stop, stupid insightful conversations about human nature, stupid good paralel between this and Paradise Lost, stupid easy to read and uniquely structured work, stupid Daniel Keyes, stupid pain and suffering and loss, supid life... stupid me.

The part about the boy and the badly made lamp and how all the adults around were congratulating him still. This being Charlie's biggest fear, to end up like him and it coming true at the end... this BROKE ME.

I now feel like Daniel Keyes has personally hurt me, I have beef with him and he should watch his back (nvm I googled him. RIP)

A lovely, intriguing quick read. Really interesting exploration of intelligence and its consequences for relationships and situations.
I really enjoyed the use of language-the altered spelling and punctuation-in the book's peaked structure as a plot propeller.

I experienced a range of emotions while reading this book. It was a devastating, heartbreaking, and beautiful read.

So incredibly moving and beautiful. I don’t even know how to express how I feel (or how much I’m sobbing) right now, just that this book is definitely going to be up there among my all-time favourites, and I can’t recommend it enough.

I'm not up to speed with the current-day terms on what in this 1966 novel uses, so I'll attempt to avoid using either the ones in the book nor the ones I think we ought to use.

When I started with the book I had no idea what to expect, and it took me a moment to get used to Charlie's writing style. Following his journey and the changes in both his capabilities and traits was pretty interesting. In some ways he changed a lot and fast, and in some ways he had to learn - or should have learned - to behave accordingly, at a  more or less equal pace but failed.

Charlie's story was quite sad, especially the very end, but in a way I guess I should call it bittersweet as I had expected much worse as the events unfolded. Your kilometerage may vary.
