Can be extremely dense, but filled with insight

Good and important content but VERY dry, I didn't find it an engaging read at all. Would definitely recommend their other books The Whole Brain Child and No Drama Discipline over this one.

I absolutely adore Daniel Siegel and LOVE every single one of the books I have read authored by him. This book in particular was incredible and very eye opening and enlightening as a parent.

okay, i didn't even finish it. i read 20 pages and it was so full of inpenetrable psycho babble that i tossed it aside.

This book was incredibly insightful for me in understanding how to handle certain parenting situations, and why I react the way I do sometimes. In my ongoing journey to work through my childhood trauma, this was a read recommended by my therapist and I put its recommendations into practice daily. I would give it five stars but I did find parts of it - particularly some of the science sections - incredibly difficult to process during opportunities I have to read (bedtime, etc). I found myself having to read some passages more than once to understand them.
