Omggggggg! So. Good. I could not love this book any more. I relate to this so much. It’s like if my feelings were put to paper (and if I could actually write). Totally recommend.

This is not a comedy. It’s not “impressively funny” as Jerrod Carmichael apparently called it. It’s sad and inspiring, it’s dark and hard. It’s also very well written and easy to read. It’s relatable and genuine feeling.

I'm glad her mom died too.

What a complete nightmare of a childhood and early adulthood. Her mother, and grandmother if we're gonna be honest, are two completely vile human beings. I cannot fathom what makes people  behave like such monsters.

I don't know if I can call the book good, it's horrific. It's honest in a no holds bars kind of way which I think is incredibly important. It made me want to peel my skin off. Every time the time period was brought up was so jarring because at a certain point I feel lulled into a false sense of security thinking "this stuff doesn't happen anymore." But then the year is mentioned and I'm like oh right, this didn't happen in the 70's or earlier before child rights, I'm older than Jenette and this all occurred while I was out and about in the world. It's fucking wild.
